[Jamming] Sharp MX-M550U Fuser Nip Gapping jam POD1_N

    Hello Folks,

Got a Sharp MX-M550U jamming at the fuser every copy. It gets about 15mm before throwing a jam POD1_N. I ran the sensor override in Sim mode and it still jams in the exact spot, so I ruled out faulty logic and sensors.

I pulled the fuser and it seems the pressure on the lower pressure roller is wrong, the nip screws are turned completely clock wise which from my interpretation from the manual releases the tension. When I turn the fuser gear by hand, and hold the lower pressure roller with my thumb at the same time, the pressure roller stops turning. The attached pic shows what I found on the bench.

So whats the proper way the gap the nip on this sucker? I cant find anything in the manual on this.

      Thanks igi!
I released the tension completely and now have both rollers turning with resistance now by hand. Are the screws supposed to be turned all the way counter clockwise and free turning right? That's what seems to be giving the fuser all the pressure now.

Ill be heading back to install & test!

Those screws (coated) should be fully counter-clockwise and loose to put pressure on the rollers.

          ZOOTECH & igi,

Next trip you guys are near D.C./Maryland let me know, I owe you guys drinks!

I corrected the pressure screws, the coated screws, and the jamming has stopped. Sharp seems to be a decent manufacture, not a difficult system to learn.

I greatly appreciate your quick & accurate help guys, THANKS!

When replacing the fuser with a new one, there are instructions on fuser pressure in the box.
            Hope that helps !

tmaged, that makes sense now, I suspected it be a new fuser but couldn't confirm it. Fuser was put in by a previous dealer who probably don't do sharps very often. It somehow ran with no pressure applied for a while with no major symptoms till recently. Although, it did spit out a skewed or poorly fused copy once in a while.

How dirty does the metal cleaning rollers get before they need to be replace? I'm seeing quite a bit of build up on them and I want the fuser to go the distance here.

              Thanks for the input!

They should be cleaned or replaced before the heavy buildup causes dimples in the lower heat roller.

The heat sink rollers can build up 1.5mm of toner and won't cause a problem. Watch if the gets to be a flat spot though ... It will start to make a racket. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                  1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                  2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                  3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                  4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

on this machine there is a fuser web counter in sim 22-1, this should give the page count on the web and heatsink rollers( all part of the mx-705rc fuser cleaning kit). the mx-705rc kit is replaced at 250k for m550and 300k for m620/700 along with the upper and lower fuser rollers.
