I don't think I've seen any threads on this issue yet and I'm curious to see how other techs/dealers are faring. In the 15+ years I've been doing this I've never had to replace a slit glass because of scratches caused by normal use on a DF. However, I've had at least 4 e347cs machines that have needed it done. To make matters worse, you need to order the entire flatbed assembly! It's extremely expensive (as in, there goes all the profits made on the machine for the last 12-18 months!) and very labor intensive. It's easy to say that the customer scratched the glass so they should pay for it, but when nothing has changed in the way that they use the machine and their last 4 machines never scratched it's a tough argument to make. Deep down, we know it's not their fault. I'm assuming the quality of glass is so low that it scratches far more easily then other types. How are you guys handling this? Are you seeing the problem? Any cheap fixes?

Re: e347cs scratched glass
Wish I had an answer for you. You are right about the cheap glass, or maybe how they coat it. Maybe the coating is wearing off prematurely?
I have seen slit glass's with a lot of scratches but that was on machines with very high meters. Not sure it was even affecting CQ that much. -
Re: e347cs scratched glass
I feel your pain! I work for a Toshiba dealer and fortunately we have on experienced this issue twice.
As far as Toshiba is concerned there is no real fix for the problem other then the steps you have
already outlined. Some techs have been experimenting with removing the slit glass from other
copiers and having them cut to size and then attaching them to the customers scanner assy.
You still have to do the removal, but at least you aren't buying a new scanner assy.Comment

Re: e347cs scratched glass
In two cases we found scrap parts donors. In the third case we sold them a new machine. I've also seen this on Lexies. You have to buy the whole scanner to get a slit glass. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: e347cs scratched glass
That would piss me off so much that I wouldn't sell another Toshiba! I know we all have our favorites but I have Toshiba right after Xerox as my least favorite machines. I actually liked some of the old analog models, especially the tabletop models, BD3301, 4121, etc.Comment
