    Toshiba 2040cse HDD

The 2040 did not utilize the wipe technology drive. Just a standard SATA 3,5” drive.

    Hello everyone,
Following a breakdown, I would like to replace the 160GB hard drive (ADI) in my 2040cse copier. I have a 320GB Toshiba Wipe Technology drive. When I try to format it in the menu (3+C+power), it gives me the following error: "authentication err." Could someone help me with the procedure if it exists?

The e2040c copier was introduced in May 2011 and discontinued by Toshiba Tec Japan in Sept 2012. No techncial suport is available after Sept 2019.

The e2040c was an overly complicated stinker that most Toshiba copier service technicians have happliy forgotten about and upgraded all existing installs in their base to newer models.

I refuse service on this model.

Is there any other hidden menu to format the hard drive other than "3+C+Power"

If your machine were in perfect condition before the HDD failure, then yes, I might replace the SATA drive. But most likely it's not in perfect condition, not even close. It's very difficult to find any parts for this model anymore, even used parts.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Everything worked fine until the hard drive failed due to power outages.

I rank the 20/3040 series almost up there with the 351/451 series LOL, but at least the 20/3040 was a "little" bit easier without the rotating developer units LOL

It won't cost you very much to find a standard HDD, and reload the firmware. But every time somebody has told me " ... that's the only problem.", it was not the only problem.

I didn't mind the 2040 or Masherbrum series at all, they were practically tanks that ran even when their PM cycles were badly neglected. Unlike all the Weisshorn, their developer tanks don't seize up or require parts other than developer. Often, the fuser would last the life of the machine despite the belt being in less than ideal condition, other than occasional flat spots on the pressure roller. The only significant issue I recall was the erasure lamps failing due to bad traces, causing the developer material to strip, and occasional clutch issues with the LCF.
No, I will not send you Manuals, Software or your own little repair Genie to fix all your problems for you.

Yeah, I don't understand the hate for these machines either. All of mine in the field just..ran.. Fusers would last 800K, devs never seized or dumped...Perhaps all of mine were just in the sweet spot. They were HEAVY machines though. Good luck carrying one up steps without 4 strong backs.

Toward the end I spent a lot of time in the back working on drive units. Yes the consumables seem to make yield.
