Anyone else struggling to get the copier to recognize the black toner cartridge. I am using OEM and have two machines in the same location doing it. Any ideas?

... you have to remove the top deck of the inner exit tray to access the sensors/springs which contact the back of the small board on the back of each toner.
The sensors/springs could be dirty, malformed or need to be replaced.
Time to upgrade these old copiers into new. No need to clutter up your head on how to keep old, overly complicated, discontinued models working. -

There are a few issues I've seen that cause this:
- The photo-interrupter that reads the toner cartridge movement gets dirty or is defective. You'll see a cutout on the drive gear of the toner cartridge that acts as a flag for that sensor.
- In the same place, there is a small board with spring contacts that interface with the chip in the toner cartridge. I've had to replace a few of them but sometimes you can clean them.
- There is a mod for the plastic frame on the front of the copier that surrounds the toner cartridges. You'll notice a plastic clip that helps to hold the toner cartridge in place. Those clips weaken and the toner cartridge is able to move back and forth. This will cause an issue where, because you get intermittent contact, it causes the toner chip to corrupt and tag the bottle as empty. The mod adds some parts to stiffen those clips.
Hope this helps! Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?Comment

Can't find the bulletin, but the parts book shows it. The toner cartridges sometimes will back out just enough to lose contact with
the toner/crum chip recepticle in the back. The TABS fix was the part highlighted. Before they came out with that, I use to take that
inner cover off, heat up the plastic tong that is suppose to hold the cartridge, bend it out a little more, then hit it with an upside down
can of air. The tiny mylar is taped in place and never failed to work.

... if you need any more excuses to replace these copiers, Toshiba Tec Japan, several years ago, has officially discontinued all support, parts and consumables for these models.Comment
