EB-3, xx25AC, xx28A goofy image first copy after easy setup

I've had 4 of the B&W machines do this, and
2 of the color machines do this.
After completing easy setup & reboot, I place a test chart on the GLASS,
in letter mode, with letter paper in tray one. The first set of copies will come
out like this. Afterwards, the copies are correctly aligned. Has to be a firmware
issue, since the b&w & color share the same firmware, so to speak.

Are you saying that the first set is not rotated correctly to match your paper orientation? Was your test image placed on the glass, or in the DF? Did you place the original during the setup procedure? ... or after it was completed and re-booted?

The only time the original orientation is detected on the glass is AFTER warmup is completed, not in service mode, only when the DF is opened/closed. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

... what happens when you print the internal test chart, found only in service mode? That is the only chart that I use and on a recent e2525AC install it printed A-OK.

I do recognize the chart you are using first introduced many years ago.

Yep, machine was at ready, ADF open, document placed on glass, ran 5 test copies, and what came out was attached.
Raised the ADF just to make sure it was set in the correct orientation and lowered, made 5 more and they came out
        correct.
Another tech set one up yesterday and it did the same thing...first set came out wrong, second set correct.
Next time we setup another one, I'll try this.
        After easy setup/reboot:
        1. Make sure machine is ready
        2. Raise ADF, trip the platen switch and make sure the lamp comes on, initializes
        3. Document on glass
        4. Test copies
        5. DO NOT raise ADF, run another set
I'll see if the second set comes out ok by not raising/lowering the ADF/DSDF.

Yeah, I've been using that chart forever...just use to it I guess.

            3525AC Setup

Had one of those to setup today.
After easy setup, upon pressing the reboot icon, I put the test chart under the ADF.
After it had rebooted, selected copy and the zoom feature showed 65%, LD>LTR
After raising/lowering the ADF, it went back to 100%, copied fine.
Maybe after the first reboot, you have to raise/lower the ADF otherwise it assumes
a LD original, and since the paper size in the cassette was LT, it just set the zoom to
            65%.
Next one I set up, I'll let it come to ready after the first reboot, then place the original
            and see what it says.

Quirky...never had one do that. I always place the original, after the easy setup reboot
            before it comes to ready.

Did a 4525AC today. After reboot from easy setup, AFTER it comes ready, raising/placing document on glass
and it didn't switch to 65% LD>LT. Guess it it just a first reboot glitch if you don't place something in the ADF
              or raise the ADF.

                Good to know. Thanks Rusty.

The last couple series machines have been a bit touchy with the touch panel, also. For example, the enduser wakes up the machine, and immediately starts poking buttons, but it's unresponsive. After some experimentation I discovered that you have to give the machine 2 or 3 seconds to calibrate the touch screen before making selections, then it works properly. For this enduser, that is an eternity. =^..^=
