    4528A doesn't "see" MJ-1048

    We setup a new 4528A with an MJ-1048 & MJ-6011. Setup went fine. Sort, staple, hole punch.
    Our installer delivered it and upon startup, the "display" in copy mode does not show the finisher.
    In the options for finish, no staple or hole punch options.
    He called me, I had him disconnect the finisher, power it up without, then power down, reattach and
    power up. Still no good. Sent a tech on site, the connection at the back of the machine has the necessary
    voltages for the finisher to operate. I had him check the 08 codes to see if the finisher was "deactivated"
    since that is a new feature. Nothing. He removed the finisher, brought it into the shop. We had another
    4528A with an internal finisher so we pulled it and installed the other one. Same issue...finisher acts dead.
    Doesn't even initialize. Pulled and looked at the finisher connections, all appear ok.
    Other than a bad finisher board, anything we might be missing?
    I'm pretty sure it's a bad board, since the copier doesn't even "see" the finisher.

      We are small and never do installs of new KM in the shop. They are delivered and installed on customer's site. In your situation working finisher is dead. It must be board logically, why I dunno.

          No disrespect to your installer, but most "not recognized" finishers have been the result of plugging in the finisher while the machine power is ON. Unplugging the finisher while live usually does not do any damage.

          You've probably noticed this too: It's most often the Logic Board on the machine, and occasionally the Logic Board & the Finisher Main PWB (even if the machine powers up normally without it).

          Older machines had separate power supplies for the accessories, and those failures were pretty common. But it's kinda obvious when all the accessories are dead. Finisher connectors are fairly durable ... I haven't seen a damaged connector in a long time, but it's certainly not impossible. We also had dead finishers from broken wires in the finisher pigtail, but never on a new device. It usually takes years of tugging to break wires inside the insulation. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              This installer...I trust big time. But, it's the #@%@^ internal finisher (which I hate). So it was connected before it left.
              If there is one thing out installer knows, is he will ASK first, before he does anything outside the norm.
              One thing I do like about the Xerox machines, a lot of their accessories (like on the light to full production machines) have separate
              outlets for the accessories. I LIKE that idea. Puts less strain on the copier LVPS.
