Thanks for the reply, but the originals are not to blame. They can be freshly printed, and the same issue occurs.

What sensor are you referring to in the RADF?

Unfortunately I don't have the parts manual any more but this is from the service handbook. [E712] Jam not reaching the original registration sensor
[E713] Cover open jam in the read ready status
Are the pickup roller, feed roller and separation roller stained or worn out?
 YES  Clean the rollers or replace them.
NO
Is the original excessively curled or folded?
 YES  Flatten and set it again.
NO
Is the original registration sensor working?
(Perform the input check: 03-[FAX]ON/[7]/[H])

NO  1) Check if the connector of the original registration sensor is disconnected.
2) Check if the connector CN74 on the RADF board is disconnected.
3) Check if the connector pins are disconnected or the harnesses are open

5) Replace the original registration sensor .
6) Replace the RADF board.
YES
Replace the RADF board. I underlined it. Check registration sensor its the senor once you insert the paper in the ADF. Hope this helps.

Check to make sure the tread is on the correct way on the sep tyre. They dont on the kits we get. Causes a lot of problems.

So it seems it was a sensor problem. 300 pages and no jam - fingers are still crossed though!

Unfortunately I cannot be sure of which, and I do not know the names of the particular sensors involved, but I will do my best to help with others.

What I ended up doing was disassembling the RADF so I could get to the 4x sensors indicated by the red arrows. I then used a paint brush and gave them a damn good cleaning. Re-assembled and all seems to be well!

Before I did the brushing, I did test the two closest sensors (if you are facing the machine), using the 03 menu, and they tested fine - I didn't however test the two farthest - my mistake. So I could surmise that one of the far two were to fault, but that is just a logical guess.

So thank you to all that contributed to this thread, most recently sagar4 who reminded me to check the sensors, and michaelc - I didn't know they had tread, but all seems well.

Well I think I was a bit hasty, the problem still remains.

On observing the RADF, the roller is in its lowered position and will feed through about 10-15 pages successfully. But then it will move one page enough to get it to the the roller with the torque limiter (that I replaced previously), but the lowering roller will continue spin and the page stop moving and the error will occur.
After opening the top of the RADF, sometimes I can manually rotate the rollers and the page will catch and be fed, sometimes it has not yet reached the rollers and will not catch.

I have tried changing 05-354 to 20, but that doesn't fix.

Does anybody have further suggestions for this issue?

Yeah, yeah, I know this is an old one, but I have a fix that's not mentioned. My MR-3018 has 400K. It's the E712 code. All the paper clears the DF. The page that jams remains in the original tray.

It has had numerous rollers and torque limiters. The pickup shafts have been thoroughly scoured, probably to their detriment. I can not seem to convince our techs that removing plating from the shafts is not beneficial.

I had the benefit of a very cooperative enduser with a huge pile of scanning to test on. She was very precise in removing staples and paperclips, straightening out flipped corners, and holding down the folded end of envelope-folded originals. All originals are mixed and feed LT-R/LG. She was extraordinarily patient in removing jammed originals without getting angry, without ripping originals, and without complaining constantly. It makes my life so much easier when I don't have to constantly reassure my enduser that we will get it fixed. I can concentrate on the fixin'.

After about 300 originals I noticed a difference in the feed tempo. Sure it stops occasionally to load the data into the HDD, and the tempo is a little different between 11" long originals and 14" long originals, but even my enduser agreed that right before a jam there was a change in the feed tempo.

When I removed the pickup shaft from the drive pack, I saw that most of the plating is gone off the shaft. I don't have any way of replacing the plating, but rinsing out the particulate, and oiling the one way bearing seemed to help a lot. The only jam after that had a staple in it.
