    xerox 8870 printhead

    Hello

i own xerox colorqube 8870 with 77.000 prints so far. Unfortunately some cyan jets are missing and cleaning routines plus jet substitution cant help the issue.
Xerox support inspected the printer and they offered a fix of 2.300 euros. There is no reason for my to pay this amount and i read that if i remove the print head
and warm it up with a drier the stuck ink will melt and the print head will work with all its jets. The problem is that i do not know how to remove the print head.

can you post a video or a step by step guide to remove it please ?

    thank you in advance

Dude those Color cubes can be a BITCH for even a Certified Tech that started off with the old phaser series!!!
and for a NON certified tech (never mind END USER)
    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ????

frankly I wouldn't fuck with it your self...

2,300 euros that sounds like new wiper assm... new printhead and HOURS of labor.

torx drivers... vaccum gauges .. PWS and Edoc needed among other basis tools...

    are you equipped?

GOOD set of torx driver bits 35$ usd Gauges -= only from XEROX in training kit =- $???? ..PWS 500-800$ usd Edoc you might talk someone out of here.. but with out PWS.. your pissing in the wind. How many of the basic tools do you have? Spring hooks - forceps - MM ruler - screw drivers - Philips and ASE ..

MIND YOU.. if you get in there and find ink spilled all under printhead onto boards.. ETC the bill will be more and YOU don't have access to NEW ( not pulls nor refurb ) boards

    sensors could be fucked..

BESIDES ALL THAT.. you never stated AN ERROR Code associated to the problem.

IF you ran the smears/missing jet menu ... like you said * there WOULD be * error code/message...

clearly you don't even know to properly operate your machine...

        I'm done.

              Hello Philip

since xerox is expensive and i do not have the knowledge i will seek a specialist in Google, one last question though

if you blow the printhead with warm air will it get fixed ? because if i need a new printhead anyway there is no point to find the specialist

              the cost is high

              thank you

The ColorQubes are very different from the laser/LED machines, but frankly removing the print head is not that hard. Haven't searched myself, but I bet there are YouTube videos. I do however sincerely doubt you can recover the ink jets by anything else but the built-in diagnostics routines.

You don't need any special tools. Just the correct size torque wrench

Here's a video. Different model but basically the same procedure.

                    YouTube

Using a hair dryer ain't gonna fix it.

                            1: Fit new printhead wiper
                            2: run head purge

If problem persists carry out advanced procedure as set out below:

Press UP and OK to go to the Service Tools menu
Press UP and DOWN to go to Service Menu
Scroll down to Head Adjust, press OK
Set value to 255, press OK
Press the BACK button to return to the Service Menu
Scroll UP to Test Prints, press OK
Scroll down to Solid Fills, press OK
Select the colour that has the missing jets and print 20 solid fills.
Press the BACK button twice to return to the Service Menu
Scroll down to Head Adjust, press OK
Set value to 128, press OK.
Press the BACK button twice to return to the Main Menu
Scroll down to Troubleshooting, press OK
Scroll down to Print Quality Problems, press OK
Scroll down to Eliminate Light Stripes, press OK
Scroll down to Advance, press OK
Select the colour and jet number of the missing jet, press O

If that doesn't work you indeed need printhead replacement, will be cheaper to buy a new machine (not the same as CQ discontinued now) or you can buy a faulty 8570/8870/8580/8880 from ebay and use the printhead (all use same printhead)

You can get service manual by googling, comes in PDF form and details printhead replacement, takes me about 10 minutes but allow half an hour if you've never done anything like this before.

                              Hello

i got the risk and put the printhead in the oven for 40 minutes at 100 Celcius

then i put it back and i receive this error

                              93,985.00

and i noticed in waste tray pure yellow instead of the usual black

                              so i've killed it ?

                              thank you
