PWS 9.2 (with xp) or PWS 11.0 (win 7) ?
Check serial cable that connect with your nachine.
I suggest you try another cable.

XP - Brand new cable USB / DB9 Serial cable, I have tried all the USB ports but still will not connect, I have installed the cable software that comes with the lead as well but still no joy. Am I supposed to do something else to tell the machine or laptop that new printer connected?

sorry, previous days, you had connected your pws with serial cable (using usb adapter ?).
Because i know that many of usb adapter have problem to connect with machines.
This is the reason that many of us use old laptop with serial port.

I use the old standby adapter, Belkin F5U409 for XP. This has proved to be the best usb to serial adapter for these machines. And yes, I always set the port to #1.

Go online to C2G (Cables to Go), order part # 02712, 10 foot male/female db9 serial cable, about $12.U.S. There is a C2G for the UK also.

                          Did you open GSN lock?
It could be the date on your laptop if it's an old one.

You need more than a serial cable. The newer laptops do not have a DB9 serial port, so you use an adapter that requires software loaded and the adapter plugs into the USB port , the serial cable plugs into the adapter. That is why we use the Belkin adapter as it always works with XP. Have tried many other adapters, but none work as good as the Belkin. Again, we set the adapter to port 1.
