MFC 7460DN and likely many other ADF slit glass scratch repair needed??

Hello fellow tech's, i hope your all doing good.
i think way back, there was some possible discussions on removing or diminishing the small scratch/s that somehow form on the thin slit glass to the left of the platen glass.

I didn't see the slit glass listed for this machine as a replaceable part? only the complete top "scanner" section unit.
i think in the past people would comment or suggest things like the rust eraser or a pencil eraser to smooth out the scratch so its not making such an obvious line on scans and copies.
we would even turn them over so the scratch wasn't in focus.

just wondering what others have done or suggest for this issue??

thank you for any suggestions or feedback.

    have a nice day,

It's common on Lexmarks too. The top of the scanner was swapped out from all our graveyard machines, to active use machines. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

i am sure you have explained to your customers about what causes that and how to prevent it? i would be willing to beat after they have to purchase the replacement part or machine, someone would learn a valuable lesson.

yes they would...oddly enough, this particular box is next to my desk. in the past at times it would get crap on the glass and it was never a scratch. i would NEVER, well, i just did on new used very high end install demo. that one the tech left a stapled sample set in the middle of some other printouts. i was standing with the customer, set the documents on a 70 ppm color and it yanked them in and thankfully stopped before they went into the feeder.

but mine was a actually a "disposed" machine i acquired after selling a new one. some people just want the next newest thing.
i am sure it had small scratches, but it was a well off man at his home office.
now 2 years or so later, i am getting this line. and its a scratch! I've never sent staples thru it so i wonder if cheap China glass might be softer somehow than what i see on the "big" machines. that glass is just hard and thick. this stuff isn't.

so anyway, that is the deal. and it doesn't look like i can flip the glass easy. last time i opened it up to clean the scanner, it was a lengthy process.

one thing i do though, i "recycle" all the paper i used to make "test" prints at the customer. then i use the back side. so, maybe it picks up grit and them wipes the glass with toner and developer?? but i still don't think developer could make a concentrated mark in one spot.

oh well, time for another machine sale and a good "disposal"

        guys have a good day.
