    Brother 5240 Tray noise

Machine is grinding as it tries to lift paper to feed ready. As heavy grinding gear from tray is fairly loud, the lift plate and gears seem ok(although some slight wear on center of gear theeth is noticeable)I couldnt see any damage to little white drive gear for lift, but it is hard to see,.from your experience should I order new tray,or do i need to change drive gears which I think may be a real pain to do.I had similiar problem on another brotther and tray took care of issue,
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks Andy

Sorry cucuklotz. I've worked on a few of these, but the main issue for my customers is running cheap labels the leave adhesive on the drum, reg rollers, etc. I've replaced a "rear chute" assembly for a broken plastic exit roller shaft. That's it.

Personally, I'd dig into that paper lift system. Get a good look at all the drive components. Brother sells mainly assemblies, so you'll probably end up replacing the lift drive assy in the end. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have seen this problem and it has to do with the rear paper guide being to tight against the stack of paper in the tray. Brother had a bulletin out about it awhile back.
