Brother MFC-8420, (according to customer "MSC-8420" ) no ADF takeup.

If they want to fax the machine starts the reading process from the platen instead of taking up the documents with the ADF as if the ADF is not present.

Never seen this beauty before in my life but have to go there tomorrow.

    Any ideas please?

there is a sensor arm that detects the originals being there or not. sometimes the pickup roller assembly stays in the down position and the original daos not get to the sensor arm to activate.. have also seen the sensor arm fall off, also turn the printer off and on to reset..

      Thanks for the reply.

sometimes the pickup roller assembly stays in the down position
If it does that, what could be the reason?

Any standard issues with this machine?

sometimes it is self induced.. you clean the rollers and they just dont pick themselves back up you have todo by hand then it works fine i have a lot of these kind of machines and dont have a whole lot of problems

Pickup Rollers are up. Sensor arm is there and operative but ADF does not recognize the original. Machine copies from the platen as if ADF is not present.
          Any ideas please?

BTW, how to remove the rear ADF cover over the harness without damaging the plastic?

the cover is held on with or without a couple of screws, there is also some little plastic clips there all a little different. there is not much under there except a distribution pcb. i would have to say it would be main board in machine. is the machine within 1 year lod brother has phone support and warrenties. and lifetime phone support call them Canadian # is 1-877-276-8437..

Bro. tech. support would probably tell you to update firmware before ordering main pwb. IF not lid switch, I'd do that first. I have the file if you need it, PM me.
