check the grounding of the cartridge, on the left side, weird confusion of parts there, take off the left cover, you'll probably see whats not touching mash it with your finger and print, you might see what's not making contact with the frame. GOOD LUCK

Right. Mr. cavvett is suggesting that the problem is with high voltage contacts in the side frame. Personally I'm leaning toward the laser unit. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
yeah, the toner contacts inside the left side frame of the machine, when you install the toner you can see the mechinism go in and out when it closes against the side frame it's not good contact. I think a bad or dirty laser would have blanks or dark black bars on good white places not smeary grays

this page is acting quarky. yes, we look inside the printers all the time. but when we need to look at the metal spring loaded contacts, we/ I dont look closely. i recently also had a similar issue. i kept telling my self the contact was good. after 4 attempts to decide if what i was looking at was right, there it was. pull the toner out. now inside the printer to the left of the sponge transfer roller, there is several silver metal wires, like a large paper clip wire. move them back and forth. mine might have been on a 4250?, but should be similar. there is a plastic hook that holds the wire from flopping out. either it can break, or the silver metal wire can flop over and now it isnt in the fully up position. now when the toner is inserted, that spring wire never actually hits the toner contact. this might be the problem. good luck, Jim
