Hi, on many desk jet type machines, when we get a problem about ink, and change them and still have the same problem, is usually not a justifiable repair. does anyone know what might be causing this? besides a lengthy job and expensive unavailable parts? any help would be appreciated. thank you, Jim

On the units that do not have a user-replaceable printhead, no. Just a lengthy and expensive job with no available parts.
The 8600, however, does have a user-replaceable printhead. I've drop-shipped a couple to customers. -

thanks for the video. the machine in question isn't that single bar printer. but it was good info so i know how to actually open and find the print heads in that style. i only had one of these a year or so ago, and it had some catastrophic print error and my vendors said it wasn't worth fixing. it seems that HP wants to support them like the old style ink jets. only a few parts, and only for a year. turn and burn baby. thank you very much, JimComment

Re: HP office jet pro 8600 "print or ink system error" they tried pulling inks
Most of the time, if there's an image quality issue, it going to be the printhead.
On models with non-removable heads, there is usually a built-in cleaning procedure that can be run to try and flush the heads out. Beyond that, though, it's trash.
I've watched that video about manually cleaning the 8600 printhead. You may do all that work, end up with ink all over the place and still end up with quality issues.
Just buy a new printhead if you still love the printer. Part number CR322A - $145 from the HP Parts Store the last time I purchased one for a customer.Comment

The way the guy cleaned the printhead in the video is a quick fix method and yes it could be disaster if the pads become saturated with the fluid and start to leak and run under the unit.
Let's say your printhead is good and the end of the hose where the waste ink disposes to the waste pad is blocked, then you can replace printheads from now till christmas and you will have problems. I have seen many of these types of printers go to the trash or money wasted on printheads because the waste system was not serviced properly. At the same time, clean the encoder and clean and lube the carriage shaft. and the paper path.
you have to remove the covers check and clean the head cleaning station, the rubber, the cleaning hose and if the pads are gunked up, remove, wash and put back in slightly damp. all this is messy and your tools and every thing that touches the ink has to be cleaned soon after. I do them once in a blue moon for family or close ones. Or just replace the whole machine.THE ONLY THING FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING..........edmund burkeComment
