I was changing the ink tubes on one when they mentioned a paper loading problem. When I went to look at it, it has a message about the maint cartridge, and wanted all of the printheads replaced. I replaced the printheads with new ones that are in date. The machine checks them then displays the following message...<br><br>"Attention, the maintenance cartridge can replace only 2 new printheads. This will require several steps. Press ok to remove the 5 printheads." <br><br>I have no idea what this means and cannot find it in the manual. It will not let me into service, keeps saying the printhead changing is not complete. <br><br>The customer is going to upgrade the firmware and let me know if that has an effect. Any input would be welcome.

Re: HP z6200 printhead issue.
I've seen these printers report all of the print heads as bad, and after power-cycling the printer, they're magically OK again. I hope you tried powering it off and on before replacing all of the print heads. There's no harm in replacing them, of course.I also would make sure the drop detect sensor is clean.
I'm a little confused; is this the printer you were replacing the tubes on? Did you go through the priming process with the setup print heads? Was it after that that it told you the real print heads you put in were all bad? That's really suspect.
At any rate, I would just follow the front panel instructions. Remove the printheads and let it guide you on re-inserting them. A firmware update is unlikely to change anything.

Thanks for responding. They are two different plotters. The one I did the tubes in is running great. When I remove printheads it just shows them as missing and ask me to reinstall them. It doesn't say which ones to remove. Also what is confusing is that it state the maintenance cart can only handle two, why not remove 6 heads?
I have powered the machine several times. I replaced all of the printheads because several were out of date. I can't get into service or any kind of test mode. I wanted to reset the counters but it won't let me in. It is also in a highly secured place and I have no phone or laptop. Having to print chunks of manual and carry it in. My guy was supposed to update the firmware, haven't heard from him yet.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment

Re: HP z6200 printhead issue.
I asked HP about this. The reason it can't accept all of the new print heads at once is because the maintenance cartridge is almost at its limit.
Replace the maintenance cartridge.
Also I would avoid replacing print heads just because they're 'out of date'. That date is purely when the warranty expires. I've seen print heads that worked just fine that were 10 years old.

Ahhh. Went back and re-read what was posted. Wasn't there also an issue with pre-mature maintenance cartridge warnings on these models (61/62)? Thought I remembered seeing a service bulletin about it.Comment
