    P4014 / P4015 / P4515 Tray Accessory

Just had an accessory tray in the shop. Acted like a sticking solenoid. Pickup assembly kept rotating. Started tearing it apart like the 42xx accessory tray. Side cover, tray number assembly all came off as normal. Then, I got to that side metal "cage" that runs the length of the drawer. Eventually found that two of the screws have moved inside, behind plastic parts. Only plastic part I was able to figure out how to remove was the rear. Couldn't figure out how the front plastic came off. I just bent the "cage" down and out of the way. Removed the pickup solenoid screw and the screw below that and the one on top just like on the 42xx. After that, I pulled and wiggled. It would not come off. I eventually saw why. HP, in their infinite wisdom have now riveted two of the pickup assembly gears to the chassis so it cannot be removed.

Hopefully I save the next person the trouble.

So the whole tray accessory is a non-serviceable assembly? That's just genius, of the HP variety. How many of these tabletop MFP do not offer a sub-assembly of the scanner, and sometimes scanner + ADF?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You can tear that whole thing down but it is unnecessary. I have a video that shows a short cut. Watch out for knocking off the little foam donut "Noise suppressor for the top of solenoid. It takes me 15 minutes, I don't trust buying that used crap cause often the solenoid is worse.

Great video and all. Thanks for that.

I was able to get the solenoid out and all, but, it turned out the problem was a broken pickup roller gear (RM1-0036). Not repairable.

HP should just make things more easily repairable.
