A customer I service plotters for, text me and ask for a quote for 4 new ones. They have Z6200's now. I know a few of you probably work on a lot more of these than I do and I would like your opinion on new models. New to be 42 inch. Any new features. Does not need to scan.

I work on some Kip and some Canon iPF. Both seem to be reliable (as long as you run a minimal amount of ink through the ink based systems). =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Based on industry standards , they are probably under used. They have to buy them in pairs like all the other printers. One for unclassified and secret. They may sit sometimes for days or weeks not getting used. I tell them they should print something once a week but they don't listen. That's the major flaw with ink based plotters. About half the calls I've done on the Canon iPF were for errors and quality problems resulting from a week or more without use. And printheads aren't cheap. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

They still want big and bad. For these folks, money is no issue. They will buy lots of ink and printhead''s for stock. That is why they expire in the machines. A few months ago I sold them 2 hdd's to have on hand, just in case I do a call and one needs replacing. I will stay with the HP's, because those are the only brand I have worked on and they are the most used on base. I don't have time to add another new brand to my learning list. I got a call this week to drive 3 counties away to work on a "bill burster". I had the customer describe to me what it was and how it works, then called the factory about it. If it's what I think it is, I replaced a DPDT main power switch on one of these beasties ages ago. =^..^=

A burster removes tractor-fed edges from paper and separates pages using bursts of air.
But as far as the original question goes, what is the customer's needs besides 42"? What are they printing? And what are they printing on? Is it all indoor? Outdoor? Fine art? Business graphics? CAD?

As do what they print, I do not know and am not allowed to ask. Basic graphics and maps I would assume. As far as I know, plain paper. It is indoors and in a clean environment. Well if they like the Z6200, I'd recommend they stick with that. Or the T7200 has 2 rolls (upgradable to 3) and can print up to 4 D-size sheets a minute, making it slightly faster than a Z6200 (though they are essentially the same machine underneath.)
For what you described though, the sensible choice would probably be the T795. But if money is no object.. the T7200 would be the upgrade to the Z6200.
If they need Postscript (if they're using Apple PCs) then you need to add the Postscript option.
That's all I can say regarding HP. Maybe someone knows of another brand's offerings.
