Designjet Z6100 86.01

This call started with 'blurry' prints. You can see the scan axis edges of the image below. I figured I was looking at an encoder strip problem, so I replaced that. Halfway through the printhead alignment, I heard a clunk and got a 86.01 error. I can easily move the carriage back and forth. Now, as soon as I turn it on, I hear a slight bump from the axis motor, and it immediately gives me a 86.01. I'm figuring it's the motor, but I wonder if it's a board. If you look hard enough, you can see some banding in the diagnostic print as well as the blur on the edges.

I'd replace the encoder sensor in the carriage before replacing the motor. In all my years, I think I've only ever had to replace one carriage motor.

Does it do the same thing if you move the carriage to a different position?

If you replaced the encoder with the encoder strip, then I'd suspect the carriage PCA. I'd perform the scan axis test, and the carriage assembly test.

Yeah, it does the same thing in every position. There's a bump, but the carriage doesn't really move, and 86:01

Did you replace the encoder sensor? I seem to remember the strip coming with the encoder.

The one that I replaced didn't have the sensor with it. So no... just the strip. I would have thought that the motor would move a few inches before throwing up a code, even if the sensor is bad.
