[Error Code] Color laserjet pro MFP M477 59.F0 error

Hi. I've had two of these in 1 week, error 59.F0 (I.T.B. Alienation contact error)

I get the same error without any toner carts in.
I know the cp3525 had this error which normally turned out to be a sticky solenoid on the fuser drive assy. This is a completely different engine and probably too new for sticky solenoids.
These machines are virtually throw away, but i'd like to get to the bottom of this error, 'cos I reckon we are going to get quite a few more of these with the same error.

Anyone had any luck fixing this error?

did you run the Alienation Test? pass or fail?

what is the page count on the ITB?

what have you done to it so far?

    have you tried swapping ITB's?

Honestly, I've never replaced the ITB in one of these. Probably never will.

But, on the subject of ITB replacement in general. We always use new OEM's. We don't even bother with refurbed ITBs. Not worth the hassle. We've either got a previous go-ahead and fix whatever is needed regardless of cost, or, we send pricing if they ask.

                1) Can't find alienation test on this model
                2) This won't print anything and there doesn't seem to be an on screen error log but it's less than a year old and everything looks pretty new.
                3) Not much, thought I'd post on here for some pointers..
                4) ITB'S for these are not much less than a new machine, and it's a long job to change one.

This isn't going to work, I can't get one page out of it. Not sure what bright spark at HP wrote that

I'm beginning to hate these boxes too.

If it's a problem with the ITB, what actually fails on them? The belts themselves look fine.

Thanks for your help anyway guys.

Typically the fuser drive assembly. If these even have something like that. I don't think I've come across one of these yet.

The fuser drive assemblies I've replaced on the 3525's & 4525's seem to be okay too. Even the solenoid LOOKS okay. No sticky pad, pad doesn't look to squashed, etc. I'm wondering if the solenoid just went bad.

I think on this model, it must be part of the main drive? There is a developing motor on the right side, but, I don't see any gear clusters on that side of the printer that it would drive in the exploded parts view.

I don't know what causes it. I had one of those errors on a 452 recently, followed the manual by changing the drum motor, no go. Changing the transfer belt fixed it. Just go with it.

Yes, this 59.F0 error is becoming a very common issue on these models as well as M452 series, recommended solution is to change the Transfer Belt Assembly. Here's an article -- 59.F0 error HP Color LaserJet M452nw M452dn M452dw M377dw M477fnw M477fdw

HP Color LaserJet Pro M452, MFP M377, MFP M477 - 59.F0 Error (Service Action Advisory)

DESCRIPTION A 59.F0 error displays on the control panel and persists even after the printer is rebooted. The error indicates that the Intermediate Transfer Belt (ITB) Assembly might have experienced a hardware failure that is unrecoverable.
                            note:

The 59.F0 error might appear intermittently at first, but displays more frequently with continued use after rebooting. This Service Action Advisory applies only to cases in which rebooting (turning the printer off, and then on) does NOT resolve the 59.F0 error.
Figure : The 59.F0 onscreen error

The 59.F0 error triggers a related 59.0240 error that will appear in the Event Log section of a Service Page Report. The 59.0240 error code also indicates an ITB hardware failure.

RESOLUTION In cases in which rebooting the printer does not resolve the issue, choose one of the following service actions:
Method 1: Upgrading the DCC firmware (preferred)Upgrade DCC firmware to controller number 15101. This is the preferred solution for the following models, which have a USB drive in the front:
                            • HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dw
                            • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware:
                            1. From a computer, download the prn file and upgrade instructions from HPRC-INC File Transfer Service. Log in using the following credentials:

                              • Password: .Gbu1108

                            2. Follow the onscreen instructions to download the DCC upgrade instructions.pdf and DCCV1_51.prn files.
                            3. Copy the DCC V1_51.prn file to a USB drive that uses the FAT32 format.
                            4. Turn the printer on, if necessary.
                            5. Plug the USB drive into front USB port.

Eh, it may resolve but I think updating the DCC firmware is a "band-aid" solution -- there's an actual physical defect, a sensor in the actual ITB that is prone to malfunctioning and my guess is HP uses the firmware revision to disable that sensor. Seems kinda shady. You'll notice at the bottom of the "Service Action Advisory" that if the firmware upgrade is not possible, the recommended solution is replacing the ITB. It is an actual hardware problem but somehow the firmware overlooks / overrides.

                              • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw

                              • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware:
                              1. From a computer, download the prn file and upgrade instructions from HPRC-INC File Transfer Service. Log in using the following credentials:

                                • Password: .Gbu1108

                              2. Follow the onscreen instructions to download the DCC upgrade instructions.pdf and DCCV1_51.prn files.
                              3. Copy the DCC V1_51.prn file to a USB drive that uses the FAT32 format.
                              4. Turn the printer on, if necessary.
                              5. Plug the USB drive into front USB port.

The printer will automatically reboot during the upgrade. Do not turn the printer off while the upgrade is taking place.
                              13. After the printer reboots and returns to a ready state, print a Configuration Report to ensure that "15101" is listed under Controller Number.
