    hp mfp e87660 fading edge...

    ok... arrived at site...
customer explained that copier has faded copies...
    I saw an example...
letter size paper... a big table... covering whole page... a couple mm from edge all around...
on the leading edge... it was faded a couple mm from the edge it was faded... it was ok the rest of page...

    so I began testing...
if paper was printed long or short edge... its perfect...
if paper copied short edge on table or adf... perfect...

long edge... leading edge always line on edge faded... adf or table...

    I performed calibration... no change...
I tried to shift image on page... no change...
    I updated firmware... no change...

I ran test pages... they were perfect...
I tried copying the test pages with the marks all around the edges... like a mm ruler going all around the edges...
it copied perfectly... there was some lightness in the background but the border was perfect... whether through the adf or glass table... short edge or long edge...

I am thinking it needs a scan lamp and the board that sits by it...

looking at the manual... I see only that glass table for order that included everything...

I am checking if anyone faced this problem before and if the only solution is to order the glass table assembly or image scanner...

or if there is something else I can try...

I would think cleaning optics... except the test page with the scale on the edges... was perfect on the edges... from adf and scan table...

in any case... your helps are appreciated...

I can't quite picture what you're talking about. Can you post a pic?

So my understanding that your problem is: fading front edge only when copy long edge?
Do you try zoom out a few % , also an example will help a bit.
The fact that copies short edge are fine looks to me like optics should not be a problem.
Could be as simple as damp paper in that tray.

What about media? Is your media curling, then flipping at the trail edge (pulling away from the transfer belt because of the natural curl of the paper)? The only sure cure for that is using short grain LTR paper, that's why LTR-R is not affected. Long grain paper tends to curl across the short edge, so the paper stays in contact with the primary transfer belt all the way to the end of the image.

You might try lighter weight media, which does not hold the curl quite so rigidly. You may be able to increase the image voids to hide the effect. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

            sorry for long awaited response...
hp answer replace the scanner table...
also they recommend all media by default must be copied short edge...

oh and as far as example...
close your eyes... you got a report on an 8.5 by 11 paper... landscape portrait doesn't matter...
you feed the 8.5 edge in the adf... copies come out perfect...
you try feeding the 11 edge in... one side starts cutting off the text... it actually starts to fade like not enough toner or a bad scan lamp... tried cleaning optics... updating firmware... margins setting trick... nothing... nada...

contacted hp and they said... replace scanner table... issue resolved...

(by the way don't replace scanner table until you change firmware... and then try a paper setting that creates a margin... you unset it... and sometimes this fixes it... I forget where its at... but its one of the adjustments like duplex... its not deep in the menus...)

            sorry for repeating...
