HP Color LaserJet CM3530 ADF pickup roller failure

As mentioned in another post this printer is dead for now but I want to try to fix it and I just remembered it's had an issue for years with the ADF that never really bothered me as I virtually never use the ADF.

The problem is the pickup roller never moves down and I get a ADF pickup error, I assume this is likely a cheap and easy fix, if so I may replace the part that's broken.

What part failure would cause this issue and is it a cheap and easy fix?

And does it make sense to fix a 15+ year old laserjet? It still works like new other than the ADF and recent 59.F0 error it started giving. Are other non user replaceable components likely to start failing due to age?

    Thank you

the error code is caused by a blockage of the transfer unit or fuser, try to make them move by hand, for the probable adf flat cable connection problem, are you technician?

Now that the printer is fixed I'm more tempted to try to fix the ADF.

The issue is that the roller never moves down to pickup the sheet. I noticed if I smack the top of the ADF fairly hard during the 3 or so attempts it does it eventually moves down and picks up the sheet.

Is this a part within the ADF that needs to be replaced or does the entire ADF need to be replaced?

I noticed the set of rollers is in the form of a removable cartridge, is it just this "roller cartridge" that's defective?

After playing around with the roller cartridge and re-installing it, it now works, I tried it at least 10 times and it worked every time though the roller sometimes only lowers on the 2nd or 3rd attempt but that's a huge improvement over it only working with a properly timed hard smack on the ADF.

BTW as I took the machine apart I was surprised the scanner weighs over 25 lbs, it doesn't seem like it could be that heavy, how is the scanner alone so heavy?

the newer ADF's are crap.. they don't have many spare parts ... mainly just replace the whole ADF.. price is some where's near 300usd for the ADF.
