    HP DJ T730 missing printhead

I've got a printer showing missing printhead. I replaced the printhead, but the message did not change (also replaced all supplies). I replaced the carriage assembly (which includes the trailing cables), still nothing changes. I guess the only thing left is the board--but man, they're expensive, and I can't guarantee my customer that it'll fix the problem. Does anyone know, can you put a used board in or does it have to be new?

Generally you can't use a used main PCA from another printer, unless you also bring over the NVM backup PCA.

How many printheads have you tried?

The one that he started with, and one new printhead. Both give the exact same message. I wish I had an old one laying around for testing purposes. In fact, I just recently threw one away.

Well, personally I would get another new printhead to test it with. If it also doesn't see it, it won't prime it with ink so you can just put it back in the box; the end user will need it eventually. I know it's very unlikely it's the printhead but, I would want to rule that out before tossing any more parts at it.

Appreciate the input. The customer went ahead and bought another machine.

Well I guess that's one way to solve it. I sort of hate that because you neither find out what the true problem was, and they'll get at least a one-year warranty and won't need you for that period, at least.

It's important how you change the printhead. If you can enter the service mode, do so. Follow the prompts to replace printhead, remove the printhead. Close up the machine without a printhead and power OFF. Power ON. Now when it boots up, the error will be cleared. The machine will prompt you to install a printhead. Follow the prompts.

If you install the printhead in service mode, the error will not clear, even with a new functional printhead.

If it will not enter service mode (and I've seen this), you may need to mechanically retract the service station, move the carriage out, then remove the printhead. Then power ON. The machine will prompt you ... etc, etc. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
