Do you guys know how that encoder disc comes off? Mine looked like it was pressed fitted on. Did not see any torx or slot to back a screw out. Sorry to be so question prone, but it is the only way we can learn.

The roller encoder sensor and disc are the same for both the 24 and 42" printers, 500 and 800.

Probably the 510 too.

Found the motor/encoder wheel/sensor assembly. It's from a DJ 500 24". Probably a pretty early model so numbers don't match what you have. The sensor number matches but the encoder wheel is different number. Encoder wheel is 7769-6049.
But looking at the LPS website they don't make a distinction between the 24" and the 42". Maybe Kiran or someone has some insight into this.

Came out of a low use printer so it should be in fine working condition.

I can ship it to you to try and see if it fixes the problem before you pay for it. If it does, paypal me $25 plus my shipping costs.
If it doesn't, just ship it back.

I believe I saw a scratch on the lines of the motor disk. =^..^=

If there was a problem with the paper axis motor or its encoder you would get a 41:xx error.

I am not getting any 41 error codes. So I hope that motor is ok. Waiting to hear from D Hook he thinks he may have some 500 parts.

I seem to recall having some parts from a 500 printer laying around. Let me check for the encoder/motor/sensor assembly tomorrow.

Update

My attempt to clean the encoder, was not successful. Now I get a paper advance failed when I run the test. It kept thinking it had a paper jam. Anyway I ordered a new disc and encoder. Hope that will fix the problem.

Well have got it all back together and had to face error code 11:11 traced that to a poor connection on one of the ribbon cables. Have got to call it a night, will try it later today.

Yes that was grease you saw on the outer edge. I cleaned the wheel as you suggested with distilled water and a coffee filter. I did get some residue on the coffee filter. In the process of assembling it back to see if it makes any difference. I can know get it opened up in about 30 minutes. So if it still persists I guess a new encoder and motor assy are going to be needed.

I see something orange on the outer edge of the wheel. Can you tell what that is? Or maybe it's something that's just behind the wheel and not actually on the wheel.

Might examine the inside of the cap too. Be sure it's clean inside and no grease present.

GENTLY wipe the wheel with a damp coffee filter. Only water. Coffee filters are lint free. Clean both sides. Don't rub too hard so you don't rub the marks off. (If there are any.)

Not sure about replacing both wheel and sensor or wheel and motor. Maybe Kiran or someone has a suggestion on how to proceed with replacement parts.

On the T1200 I had that showed the same problem I only had to replace the encoder wheel. But it was contaminated with grease from the inside of the plastic cover. Came that way from the factory.
