    It was a bad printhead. I went through 3 before I got a good one. Quality control on these heads is not good. But I did manage to get this fixed. Thanks for your response. Richard H

    Kiran thanks so much for all of your and Don's support. It prints perfectly and no streaks are present. Consumables should never be overlooked that is for sure. Not just the printheads but the ink cartridges enter react in some fashion. It was a long and learning experience for me and one I will not forget. I have one last thing to figure out I still have some air in the ink tubes, but that is tomorrows challenge...

    I should have been more specific. It could be one of the other printheads causing the the black to malfunction. Replace the three other printheads, yellow, cyan and magenta.

    Beyond that I have no more advice.

    Kiran;

    I have bought 5 black printheads to date. The last one came from Amazon, so I did not buy it from the same source as the other ones. I just don't see how I could get 5 bad printheads. Another thing it shows the x for the printhead even when there is no printhead installed. I should show that no head is installed but it does not do that. I am overlooking something and I am wondering if it is the chip in the cartridges.

    So you've ruled out the EMOD, trailing cable and carriage assembly. That leaves the printheads. I would rule out it being another printhead causing the issue by replacing the other three.

    And I've never seen the ink cartridges cause a printhead issue, but anything's possible.

    Hi Kiran;

    Just installed the new carriage assy and a new printhead and I still get the error for the black printhead. I am wondering could the cartridges have something to do with this issue? Everything else has been replaced I am questioning the black print cartridge it called for a new cartridge right before I started getting this issue. I replaced it but I had to put the old one back in to boot it up then I switched the cartridge to the new one and it worked. You know I replaced the ISS unit 2 weeks ago, and had to fool it again to get it to accept the cartridge. What is your take on that?

    I'm overlooking something and/or I am going crazy.

    I ordered a black printhead from Amazon this time so as to see if the batch was bad from the other source. Yep same error on the other EMOD I am really starting to think it is that connection between the head and the circuit in the carriage. I'm like you since I replaced the trailing strips I don't know where to go from here. Really appreciate everyone for chiming in on my issue. Richard

    Ah, if you had the same issue with the old EMOD, then I would rule out the EMOD. And it could be the flex cables (that connect the heads to the carriage PCA.)

    If another carriage doesn't do it, then I'm not sure what it is. I'd get another black printhead to rule out the consumable for good, at least.

    Ok about the warranty issue. I only replaced the board in the carriage unit, could it likely be the contact circuit board messed up somehow. I am wondering if that could be the issue. Have you experienced anything like that? I was thinking that the EMOD could be the culprit but I found it odd that it had the exact same error as the old EMOD. I ordered a complete carriage assembly from LPS should be here Wednesday. I am going to have quite a number of parts left over on this project. Richard

    The only thing that expires is the warranty. The printheads will continue to work past the warranty date.

    If you've replaced all these parts and still get the error, you either still have a bad printhead, or possibly the EMOD you got is defective.

    Hello Kiran & Don;

    I am a total loser. I just replaced the board in the carriage assembly, and I still show a bad black printhead. So following up on a suggestion Kiran made I replaced the trailing cables too. Still get the blasted error for the printhead. Something that did show up tonight when I was looking at the other color printheads is the Cyan printhead says it is expired, but show to be working wonder if this could be a issue? Guys I am running out of stuff to replace. All together I have replaced the EMOD, ISS unit, carriage PCB, trailing cables. By the way, Kiran it did show on the display to have firmware 5.01 so it has been upgraded. Maybe it is the carriage unit contacts they are clean.

    I think I could write a book on trial and error. I have just about replaced all the boards in the machine it seems like. Will let you know when I replace the carriage assy. I ready for some good news for a change.
