What am I doing on New Years eve? Trying to resurrect this Laserwriter II

I have replaced the fuser, the 120 V power supply, and the laser scanner.

This is what a test page is looking like.

UGH!

Any ideas?!?!

Agree with the reply. That is most likely the toner cartridge, especially if it is non-oem, plus that new cartridge probably has been sitting in some shelf for a long time, and the shelf life expired. Take back that drum/toner unit and get a replacement.

Stop the print as the paper reaches before the fuser and remove the drum unit and look at the drum. If you see the smudging on the drum, then replace the cartridge. Those machine the 11 and 111 were solid workhorses in its day and known as Tanks.

Got out a NOS cartridge and it has greatly improved!!

Tossed the other one.

Do the remaining smudges look like still toner cartridge issues?

Yes. Still looks like bad toner cartridge.

I KNOW any NOS cartridge is going to be faulty. Probably better off trying an aftermarket (bite my tongue!).

For sure , you would not get an OEM cartridge for that machine, and as I said before those that you do get, most likely is sitting on someone shelf for long time. Nobody runs those machine anymore, way to old. You can shine it up an put it on a display, cause the biggest problem you may have with those is getting reliable toner/drum cartridge.

You know what. My memory jogged a bit here and I remember the power supply use to have cold solder on the board that use to cause issues [I think it would not turn on was the issue ]. Can't remember what specifically, but it could be related to image quality issue. remove the power supply and inspect it closely . Can't remember if it had a separate HV PS, but you can check it anyway.

I have a "new" cart on order, I am assured its be recently refurbed with a new wiper blade
