    HP 4250/Fuser noise

    HI,
I replaced the fuser unit with new one,and worn drvie gear on idler that drives fuser.Other gear on frame that lifts paper tray is fine.T%he fuser stills grinds and vibrates and even knocks, AND KICKS OUT away from drive ,but still makes contact so it turns. When I put slight pressure on lower fpart of fuser,it runs SMOOTHLY ,,noise and vibration free. The blue fuser locks are new and in tact. Does the frame cutout they lock onto need to be bent in to lock tighter. If not what else can I try. This seems to be a fairly common problem on these machines as I have seen a number of them do this. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
    \ THANKS< ANDY

There's a service note on this. What's your email? I'll send it to you. It has something to do with the swingplate assy.
[There is an easier fix for it than what HP describes] and it's described in the 01/06 edition of the Parts Now Service Today newsletter. I also have that if you want it.

You need to replace the inner gear that drives the black gear that the fuser is driven from. If you get a flash light and look inside you can see it. It's called a swing plate assembly and it contains two gears and in order to replace you need to do a pretty heinous dis-assembly.

          HP 4250/Noise From fuser

          HI,
          Thanks for reply.
I had looked at it with light, and have spun it using black gear to turn it and it seems very smooth.Does this still not give me whole story or is it a must that it be changed?
          thanks Andy

I just sent the materials. The Parts Now newsletter has an easier fix than the one HP recommends.

              Swing plate

The gear could turn smoothly, but chatter when there is a load on it. Being that it isn't under much of a load until the fuser is being turned. If you haven't replaced either gear I would start with the brown gear. There are additional gears in the system that are hard to see as well. The swing plate assembly is a rather cheap part as well.

I've got a 4250dtn making a noise like this. We have changed the fuser once and it went away but has returned. Any chance you could share this quick fix info on it?

Don't bother with the quick fix. You'll have the same problem as cucuklotz.

Replace the whole swing plate. There are several gears that wear, not just the easy one to get. It's 75 minutes to do it the right way, so you won't be back again next week doing it for free labor. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

agree with Blackcat, only one way to do this job right.

Here it is, good luck. There is also something from Parts Now, which is an easier fix as stated earlier. I'll look for that.

Yeah I just ordered the whole swing plate assy and just going to repair the entire thing. thanx for the info on that. Had seen one site that actually sells a metal gear with the assy but we just went with the reg one from HP.
