    HP LJ P3005 replacement

    Ok, customer bought 5 of the 3005dn printers in Jan of 09. Had them installed in June of 09. May of 10 , 3 of the 5 have bad formatters. Needless to say they are not happy. We did not sell them, their outsourced IT people did and called us when they started to have problems and couldn't figure out what was wrong. The IT company won't honor a warranty because its over a year and I sure as heck am not.

    Bottom line: Customer wants to replace the units with something else and would like to buy it from me. I rarely sell smaller units. Can anybody recommend a reliable replacement compatible unit to these 3005's?

      1. First remove the formatter from the printers. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, or 180C. remove any plastic that you can from the formatter (simm sockets cannot be removed).
      Bake the formatter for 8 mins. Your customer has nothing to loose and you can be the hero. I fixed my fourth P2015 with this method last week (that is four for four).

          This whole series of machines has formatter issues, mainly 49.xxxx codes. Good luck with the board baking. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              HP 2420s are a downgrade because they are older machines, but they are nearly identical. You'll have to get one with an optional feeder to get 500 sheet tray cause they come standard with 250-sheet tray.
              Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

                  Thanks for the suggestions.
                  I have heard of this oven process/hot air rework for the old 615n nic s and some have had success with the 3005 formatters using this and similar hot methods.
                  Thing is, customer is done with these units.
                  Have the 3010 units proven to be more reliable?
                  I'll have to see what reviews are.
