    HP LJ 3100 Fax

    went to work on one of these yesterday. there is a lever/switch on the cover that opens (i'll attach a photo), that hangs the paper up when starting thru. i used scotch tape to hold it open so it wouldnt interfere. can someone tell me what the lever is for and is it missing something? it seems to be a gravity thing and wont move out of the way of the paper.

      From what I can see in the SM, it's just some sort of passive part. I'd take apart the control panel if you can or just tape it up if that works. More than likely it's become dislodged from its pivot or is broken, which is why it is impeding doc. travel.

          mjunkege is right on the mark. But it probably won't run with it taped up. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              Won't run RIGHT, that's probably for sure.........perhaps Lnorris stongly disagrees? He's the one who taped it, I'd assume he actually observed the result...but you know what assume does to us, eh blackcat?

                  Sure do. It makes an ASS of U and ME. It would probably feed the whole stack then try to feed an imaginary last page, then show a jam. =^..^=

                      LOL i do alot of assuming...lol i taped it to be out of the way. it was workin when i left and havent heard back. i just didnt know if it actually performed any kind of function or purpose. if its not, i'll remove it.

                          It's a flag, I think. Been a while since I've seen one of these. Maybe flag out of position? Since this printer is kind of old what you did to fix it may keep it from having to get fixed for a while. Any other thing, I would suggest upgrading to something newer. The part that this is part of is RG5-4221 Upper Guide or RG5-4220 for the entire printer door if you really want to fix it.
