The clj 2840 goes into ready. Then when you go to print or copy you get fuser code 50.2 which I guess means nothing is open or you would not go to ready. Is there anything that would be changed outside of the whole fuser to solve this or is this a timing problem where sheet did not feed etc.? Any advice is appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Re: clj 2840 w/ 50.2 fuser code/ goes to ready first...
A 50 error, is a problem with the Fuser.... the .2 indicates that the fuser failed to warm up as expected.
A full fuser replacement is your best bet. -

Thanks but I'm just curious Marc. If the fuser failed to warm up properly why would it go into ready and not give code until after a job is sent or copy made. Shouldn't you get code during warmup cycle or am I missing something("If I only had a brain"--Tin Man). FrankComment

With the Quick Heat elements (ceramic heating elements, rather than lamps) many of the HP printers these days do not do any preheating cycle.Comment

So if I had a compatible heating element from one of the other HP model fusers laying around would that more than likely do the trick? I'm very likely to get whole fuser today.FrankComment

They are not all compatible. Unless you're talking about the same model machine. What machine does the other one go to?
Additionally, the printer may go to ready and still have a bad fuser because the element may work enough to go through preliminary warm-up, but not attain sufficient heat or maintain it for the required time needed to print.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

I'm not sure what you mean by compatible elements, If you are thinking of rebuilding the unit with parts other model number fusers, be aware that these days it seems few parts are common between models. The Elements themselves vary by diameter and operating temperature. And I can't even say for sure that while a 50.2 error means the logic is reporting that the fuser is slow to warm up, that the element is the core of the issue. I.e. I don't think there is a "50" code for a blown thermistor... Nor for a bad power supply. Or DC controller, which also could be sources of the problem.
99.8% of the time with this model a 50.2 does indicate the fuser is at Fault.Comment

Re: clj 2840 w/ 50.2 fuser code/ goes to ready first...
Thank you for all the useful info. I am servicing Hp machines here and there but not too often. I thought I had seen that the lj4000 film sleeve and heat element were reasonably common to several machines though I am not an expert or the one to ask. I picked up 2840 fuser and installed this afternoon and all is okay. Thanks to all. FrankComment
