HP 4100N prints out blank sheet then a 13.1 jam code

Hello,
I checked all the paper feed sensors and blew out sensors same problem tried pressing button on side of machine for engine check showing jam after a few sheets. I'm wondering if there is a laser start issue possibly a sensor. any suggestions

Replace foam with similar thickness pad. The actuator will magnetize if it makes direct contact, metal on metal. =^..^=

Cool, if the solenoid is stuck full time, then when you turn on the machine it should feed a sheet of paper. what I mean is that as the engine rotates so should the paper feed roller, all the time! Thanks

Most common manifestation of this problem is this foam pad on the paper pickup solenoid getting gummy and sticking long enough to allow a second sheet in and misfeeding (misfed sheet WILL be blank). Does not typically stay actuated very long past its normal duty cycle. You can simply remove this foam, which will result in a clicking sound when feeding paper, or as suggested add a patch of mylar/vinyl label to replace the foam. "When in Rome, visit the Pope." - i.e. if you have a machine down to this level, it makes sense to check this solenoid as preventative maintenance.

What i do is remove the foam, then apply a small piece of heat shrinking tube. wont have problems ever again.

acsolution, I just had this problem last week and hope this is the same for you. I found that the spring on the cover access switch wasn't locking in and sometimes it doesn't activate the switch when the machine vibrates. I got the same jam code too.

I did the hard way. I replace both solenoid and drive gear assembly, until the spring fall out of the interlock switch, I taped the end of the spring back in position and it works like a champ.
