HP4100 Double Imaging / Not fully fusing

We have 3 HP4100 printers installed at a bank. 1 of these is not fully fusing the toner onto the page. The print quality is good but there is a slight double image or ghost image at the bottom of the page and if you rub a clean sheet of paper on the printed page the the toner rubs off too easily. Plain paper and the heat setting was set to normal. We replaced the fuser with a new unit with no change. I changed the fuser heat setting to high1 and even tried a page on high2 with no change. Checked all connectors and the fuser itself and I can not see anything wrong.
Could this be a board issue? The customer is using a generic cartridge. The other printers work fine with the cartridges.
    Thanks

The only times I have seen this issue we were using compatible cartridges. I cannot explain why one printer will work fine and the other printer does not when using compatibles, but it happens. If you try an OEM and it works fine, you may need to go OEM, or try a different supplier. Have you tried swapping cartridges from printer to printer? Or maybe swapping fusers around to see? Wished I had better info, but this is all I got. Good luck.

You've got four things to look at:

      1) Toner type
      2) Media type
      3) Fixing heat
      4) Fixing pressure

      1) Sometimes Generic toner does not fuse at the same temp as OEM.
      2) Film fusers do not do very well with heavy media.
      3) I like to think that if there was a heat issue you'd have an error, so I think we can rule this one out.
      4) Perhaps you've got worn pressure roller bushings? Is is a used or rebuilt fuser, and do the bushings look OK?

      =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Most of the time when there is a print quality issue generic toner cartridges always get mentioned. I think that is the first thing I would do . Install oem cart.

The fuser may be getting less than the recommended line voltage required to get the heat up to where it should be which is from the the power supply or poor line voltage to the printer. You might have a faulty dc controller (more likely) which is responsible for correcting said voltage when it goes too low or too high.

In this printer that is an all-in-one board called the engine control board and you will need to split the machine in half to replace it. I recommend checking line voltage first. Due to the age on this machine you might want to see if they will upgrade to something newer, although there are plenty of these still in service.

I also agree with toner. There are many remanufacturers that have different standards of what toner they use. Then you also have drill and fill folks that have no clue about toner. I have actually witnessed in one facility of a large remanufacture that saved the toner from the supply hopper and the WASTE hopper and mix it in with the toner they bought.

It turned out to be the "new" fuser that was installed recently. It looks perfect but I swapped it to another printer and the problem follows the fuser. Cartridge swapping made no difference.
              Thanks guys.

All goes back to basics. CQ= Fuser-cartridge? Sometimes it's tricky. And the vender is going to tell you , No way, it can't be OUR fuser.

Glad you got it going. HP 4100 is a good machine. They can't upgrade to one better.
