    [CQ] Black horizontal line lj4200

I am getting a black horizontal line on the top of the page when only printing from Tray 1 or envelope feeder. Everything prints perfect through the other trays. It doesn't matter if its plain paper, labels, letterhead, etc... You get a horizontal black line about 1 inch thick. Any help would be appreciated. I have installed latest firmware and even tried swapping out the formatter pwb.

Horizontal doesn't mean much. How are you holding the paper, and is it a portrait or landscape image? Either its in the feed direction or the crossfeed direction, main scan or sub-scan direction.

I'm going to make the assumption that you're feeding A4 or letter orientation and portrait images, and a line across the top would be crossfeed. Can you confirm that much? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That really doesn't make sense. Did you swap the toner cartridge first? I would do that before anything else. Even if they say it's new. If that fails to work with new cart then:
Change the transfer roller to an OEM roller not third party. Be sure to clean the static brush.

              I've had this problem before.

Try a known good toner cartridge.
              Update firmware
              Update driver

If it still doesn't go away, try the following:

              1. Unplug the printer
              2. Remove the toner cartridge
              3. Clean/examine cartridge contacts. Specifically, the 3 wire contacts that make contact with the cartridge. Make sure they are not misshapen or broken.
              4. Follow service manual (if you don't have one ask manuals4you) instructions to remove the power supply.
              5. With a flashlight, examine the contacts that hang down and make contact with the top of the power supply. Check for damage breakage.
              6. If any of these contacts are broken, replace the transfer frame asm RM1-0007. This will require removal of the entire left side metal frame to install. There are no instructions for this, so I do not recommend it for those without some experience. Make sure not to crimp or cut any cables when performing this repair. You can't get this part from HP, so you will have to get one from a refurb parts vendor.
              7. If everything is as it should be, replace the power supply.
              8. Last and most unlikely is DC controller.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
