if I were troubleshooting i would check the following:

    1. change type of paper used
    2. change cartridge
    3. HVPS contacts
    4. HVPS
    5. latest update of firmware

The main problem I run into is the refill cartridges. One one occasion I brought out 3 refills & 1 OEM. All the refills made heavy background, and the OEM worked perfectly.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I got a tech friend that said he never runs mixed cartridges on the hp colorlaserjets they dont work in tandem well for some reason. I never have mixed them before so I personally can't confirm his statement.

I have ran across it several times, and they seem to run better if all OEM or all Non.
Changing the media or the weight of the paper manually works too.

I found interesting tidbit on internet today, thought you might be interested in knowing it. If not, please ignore since 2006 HP has patent that allows them to install firmware update on the cartridge chips. If refurb chip emulation is not as close to the OEM, it will cause messages like, NON-HP CARTRIDGE INSTALLED (not permitting supplies status page to print status of cartridge when this appears), in addition will affect image density when being used in tandem with OEM.
