    HP 9000 opening stuck paper tray 3?? makes noise

    Hi guys,

    I'm stumped again, I hope someone can help me out.

    We have an HP 9000 that's down. It doesn't give any error messages/codes. The 4th paper tray (the one thats on the bottom) is making a lot of noise, like the motor isn't able to lift it or something. It sounds like grinding gears. I can't pull out the tray. It doesn't even open an inch!

    Does anyone know how I can open the tray? I'm hoping I just need to take the paper out and it will work again.

      Oops its the 4th tray, I forget theres a manual feed tray 1 first.

      So, I've been playing around with it trying to get it to open. No luck yet. But now it's giving a code:

      66.11.00 Input Device Failure

          You've got a communication problem between your paper deck and the printer.

          It could be something as simple as a loose or pulled connector, or the paper deck's main board could be bad.

          I'd check the all the connectors first. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              I agree with blackcat. A tech/customer had this problem yesterday with an HP 8500 - 2000 sheet feeder. Turns out it was the cable from the stacker/stapler asm that had a bent pin. Because the 2 were daisy chained together it affected the 2000 sheet feeder. (feeder made strange noise, lifted paper, but wouldnt p/u nor could the printer see it) I asked him to disconnect the stacker and the feeder worked fine. They replaced the cable on the stacker and both optional assemblies work fine now.

              If its not the cable check the connectors, make sure the cable is connected correctly, then check the feeder controller board.

                  It's fixed now. The problem was that someone put paper (like 1000 sheets) in the wrong side of the tray. So when the tray lifted the sensor didn't detect the paper and thought there was no paper in there. It lifted with a lot of force and bent the top of the frame/cover out of shape and jammed everything up

                  After disassembling it and getting the paper out it works fine again.
