If it's a 5500 carriage, you'll need to swap the line sensor with the old carriage; I believe that's the only difference between them.

Also, if there's one thing I've learned, it's never trust what the end user claims to have tried to remedy a problem.

I'd bet money on it being one or more faulty print heads. Having to replace the carriage assembly is/was extremely rare.

That's what I was thinking, I have never had a bad carriage. Pull the heads and check the date on them, and always take what the user says with a grain of salt.

But...but.....too have p/heads 1, 3, 5 saying there not seated and 2,4,6 being ok.......isnt that like winning a lottery.... can that because of the head locations point towards a board?
Also it did have a bad trailing cable....

It's likely just a coincidence.

Again, I would try inserting each print head by itself, and see what it says. If you put in the yellow and it says OK, but then put the black in and the yellow says reseat, then one of the two is defective.. likely the black. If they won't spring for new print heads, then I would stop there and say there's nothing else you can do.

So the customer had me get a carriadge and replace it...did it make any difference...nope...So maybe they are finally going to get some or at least one printhead to see what happins. They are still trying to tell me they have changed them twice....hmmmm
Which printhead does error 5306, 5506 indicate?

HP Support document - HP Support Center has the breakdown on the error codes.

5306 would be "reseat yellow, there's a problem with the smart chip"; likely a bad print head.

So its finally working...so it was the print heads!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isnt that what you guys were telling me all along!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sent the client a link to a forum about the issues with printheads that call for reseating and about changing them all. Finally he ordered them all...we changed them all at once and it worked........................

So it did have a bad cooling fan in the power suppply...that was one error code....had a torn trailing cable from a paper jam they unjammed.....I also had to replace the carriage because at that point they couldn't/didn't believe the printheads could all be bad...now all that is left is a hard drive that fails every now and then..but there leaving that till it dies!!
