I searched the Lexmark manual twice looking for this ISO roller.
So did I, its not in there. here is the video link to see how to replace roller. its not bad at all. you will need lexmark login

The link for the video says "page not valid". I am working on one of these machine with 570k and the roller is completely gone, that is missing, not there. The machine works, but hesitate a little when it feeds. No loss of much speed, but you can hear the machine trying to refeed the paper on it's feed journey.

I have replaced the roller, but on my own wits. The service manual has a very ,very strange replacement procedure, when comes to installing the roller rubber on the shaft.

They don't tell you how it is to be done, as it involves removing a couple of parts on the left side and the "key" to this repair is removing the two bushings that hold the roller. The roller must be removed from the machine to install the isolation roller.

When these machines get on with higher mileage, this roller would have to be replaced, there is no way of getting around that, or live with the feed hesitation when the paper reaches the isolation roller.

The sm should show exactly how to get the roller into the shaft , but it does not show how to remove the shaft for the roller to be installed.

Maybe someone can explain how the roller is actually installed, or when I have the time, I can do that.

you have to open the white cover 1 tab on each end then 2 screws and remove the multipurpose tray roller, then 2 eclips, pin and slide that to the right. The paper guide underneathe that shaft (black paper guide) has to come out 2 screws. the plastic shaft that the isolation roller is on is under that black guide . cut the roller off. remove the eclip and slide the bushing out (right side of the plastic shaft) you will need a springhook and then you force part of the feed tire through the area where the bushing was and slip it over the end of the plastic shaft and then pull it through and work it back to the middle. on the next one I'm on i will try and take pics to post. its not that bad of a job once you do one.

Right. I did all that and when it came to pulling the roller through the shaft, that was ridiculous. I think, they came up with that procedure a bit later , as they thought the roller may not ever have to be replaced.
I fiddled with trying to get the roller into the shaft , by pulling it through, and saw that there is a good chance that it would get pinched and took the route to remove the whole shaft and then insert the roller easily and correct. It involves removing the left side cover, drive unit, and the bypass clutch in addition to the procedure you outlined. all that takes less than five minutes.

Then, I removed about five screws from the metal outside frame to separate a gap from the plastic frame. the isolation roller has a white gear attached to it, which i then pop off and then the bushing for the shaft on the left side has a tab on the inside part of the machine, which you turn to the hole where you can push it out. Slide out the shaft and replace the roller and reverse the steps to install.

That's the way I did my replacement, which is not bad and zero risk of damaging the rubber roller. Hope this makes sense.

I would try install roller from the bushing side next time. That is a fishing expedition, as you have to wiggle and wobble to get that roller in through the shaft.

This is a new roller vs. one with 330K on it.
              rollers.jpg

The newest 2023 version of the Service Manual has the part # in it as well as replacement instructions although it leave out the most import view of actually installing the roller. I will include that in my next post.

This is what I did. Strapped the ADF shut. Removed the 550S tray and front door and laid the MFP on its back. Removed the two e-clips holding the MF roller in place (temporarily lost the MF roller pin down in the MFP, ugh!) Removing the clips and sliding the MF on the shaft should be done before laying the copier on its back. Removed the guide hiding the isolation roller and shaft. Removed the e-clip and plastic bearing from the ISO shaft. Cut off the old roller and installed the new one. This last step is where the service manual doen't include a photo. Maybe 30 minutes? Not something I would like to do in the field.

The part you order includes two rollers and a MF resist pad spring. Maybe they include two rollers because there is a good chance you could rip the roller.

I oiled the new roller slightly to let it slide through the narrow opening a little easier. Once I had half the roller pulled through I twisted the shaft while pulling the roller to help it pop through.

I like the oil idea. I have done 3 machines and the last one I poked a hole through the tire with spring hook. lol. I ordered 5 rollers not knowing it came with 2 in bag.

This happened to me after a fuser maintenance kit install...the exit sensor above redrive assy was 3 pin and connector on control brd was 4 pin....i left it disconnected and this problem started. i went back and plugged it in to the left and fixed the problem.

So when paper was fed to this roller it didn't have enough to push the paper on through so i guess it was refeeding slowing everything down.

Hello , my solution to this problem is to cancel quiet mode or reset machine to factory sects.

                        Good Luck,
