I just updated the firmware on an XC4140 from CXTAT.056.xxx to CXTAT.076.294 using the web portal. The firmware seemed to load like normal but when it rebooted there were no icons on the screen. I waited a while and nothing changed, so I rebooted. Now after the initial startup screen it just says "Busy, please wait." I left it for a couple hours, but no change. I think went into Invalid Engine Mode and tried again from the web portal. It took the firmware without error messages but after rebooting it's back at the "Busy, please wait" screen. Any ideas how I can recover this? We've been a Lexmark dealer for a couple years and haven't run into anything like this before.

Re: XC4140 - After firmware: "Busy, please wait"
There's only one thing I've ever done on Lexmarks to recover a machine that wouldn't come back from a firmware update ... or wouldn't take firmware. Controller board ... and I've changed a few. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

you might reach out to lexmark on that one. they might have to have you roll it back to a previous version. then move forward from there. are there any added accessories? IPDS chip or such? the latest version i see from lexmark is...

Re: XC4140 - After firmware: "Busy, please wait"
Thank you both for your replies. It's painful to think a simple firmware update (which I've done 100 times) can take out the main board without anyway to recover. I will reach out to Lexmark as well. I just thought I'd start here to see if there was a simple trick I just didn't know about. Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?Comment

Re: XC4140 - After firmware: "Busy, please wait"
Good news! I decided to try the security jumper just to see if that would do anything. It didn't, but when I had the panel off I saw that this one had an HDD installed. I disconnected the HDD, powered it on, and it came right up to ready state. Then I powered down, plugged the HDD back in, powered on, and it came to ready state again! So I'm assuming some data was corrupted on the HDD and powering the machine on without it was enough to bypass that. I'm now doing the HDD sanitize procedure in 2,6 menu to make sure the HDD is squeaky clean! Thanks dalewb74 for your question about added accessories on this machine. That's what triggered my idea. Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?Comment
