Re: X748de carriage transport belt replace
The scanner drive belt is a little more difficult to change. You'll have to take off the DF, then take the top off of the scanner to get to it. Not horrible. Can you still get the belt? I'm surprised. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: X748de carriage transport belt replace
yes, scanner drive belt is the issue. customer gave me the machine and lots of supplies. belt is laying loose under scanner glass. after i organized the steps to replacing belt it doesn't seem too bad. belt is for sale at a few places, if still in stock. it's a heavy machine for 1 person to move, and thats why i balked at it at first, but just can't let it die as it is very low volume--except for scans. may tear it apart this weekend as i don't know if the belt is reusable until i get it out. thanks---tueyComment

Re: X748de carriage transport belt replace
Usually the belt frays at one of the looped ends. I have not been able to MacGuyver it successfully.
Make sure that the wiring harnesses to the scanner board are fitted properly. That's the most common problem after disassembly. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Re: X748de carriage transport belt replace
i wont know if the belt is damaged until i get in there-- i can see the belt but can't see the ends. bought a new one for $12 shipped so it will arrive monday-- wasn't gonna gum up the job for lack of parts for $12. thanks for the heads up about the wiring harness-- that could be very valuable info. tueyComment

Re: X748de carriage transport belt replace
raining today and a slow holiday so i replaced the belt. 2 hours-1st time, probably do it much quicker second time. thanks for the heads up about the ribbons-- different set up than usual and i've been known to get mad at difficult ribbons. hardest part was paging around manual and finding everything, wouldn't have to do that again. my 1st time on a lexmark multifunction- do the printers regularly-also fairly simple. i love the lexmarks. thanks again for the help everyone--tueyComment
