Source for Ricoh N803-6701 4MB PCMCIA driver

Does anyone have, or know where to find the driver for the Ricoh N803-6701 4MB PCMCIA card?

I see now that it seems MTD-0002 is an error code.

My search online has turned up several choices which were not the correct driver.

What exactly is that you are needing to do? The 4MB PCMCIA card is normally used for loading firmware on older machines. In addition to the 4MB card you also require a computer with a PCMCIA I card slot and the Memory Card Explorer for RICOH (MCERICOH) which you had to purchase from Ricoh. There also used to be 30 day evaluation version available on TSRC.

That was my intention.

I have a Ricoh 5510L which I have wanted to upgrade NCU firmware along with installation of the firmware needed for the network scanning accessory board which is also installed.

I also have the firmware files.

I've had the Ricoh Memory Card Explorer demo (XP) for quite some time. I was told long ago that it would run on Windows 7

Today I finally sat down and tried to wrestle through the installation on a Panasonic CF-53 Toughbook running Windows 7. The Toughbook has installed two PCMCIA card slots.

What I did not realize besides the driver necessary for the NOS 4Mb PCMCIA card I have, but the possibility that the hardware might not configure to work with Ricoh Memory Card Explorer. It seemed apparent after several attempts to configure the slot exclusions that every memory window setting produced the same error.

I just now found an additional user guide for Memory Card Explorer and some additional trouble shooting hints. After fiddling with it most of the afternoon, I'm way too tired now try the additional trouble shooting.

What version of the MCE demo do you have: V1.00, V1.10 or V1.11?

When was it first installed on that computer? The 30 day free trial starts on that date and time. That date is saved in the registry.

I downloaded all of the versions available from the MCERICOH website MCERICOH Home . I installed version XP Version 1.00 on Friday August 28th.

I held out until I was ready to actually try it out. It does warn that:

"MCERICOH - XP is designed to work on most computers that have PC card controllers. However, some computer hardware does not allow MCERICOH - XP to work correctly, or may cause a problem.

So, Ricoh strongly recommend that you confirm that MCERICOH - XP works on your computer using the 30-day demo version, before you purchase the MCERICOH - XP from a local Ricoh subsidiary or OEM partner.

After the 30-day trial period expires, you will no longer be able to use MCERICOH - XP, unless you purchase the full version."

It seems that I am having hardware/memory conflicts.

I had completely forgot that the card like every other peripheral might need a driver. Since there was a version for Windows XP, I would have thought there might still be a driver set "in the wild". I do understand that at 20 years old, XP is practically ashes in the proverbial grave.

I may find out that MCERICOH will not work on a laptop and requires the use of a AT PC with 32 bit PCI slots.

I'm not holding my breath, but after taking a 4 hour nap I may be a little bit more optimistic.

I just realized that that in the 1st of the two slot PCMCIA sockets, is a SD card adapter. I'll have to remove it and try again.

The 1.11 version is the latest version released and is more likely to support more computers and later Windows versions. 1.11 Demo is the only version that I have ever used.

Okay, I will try that.

Foolish me assumed that I had to use the other version.

I was curious to know if the 4MB NOS N803-6701(sealed in the box) PCMCIA card might be defective. I powered off the 5510L, plugged in the card and powered it back on. Immediately after initial start up it went into service mode as specified in the service manual.

I can cross that off of the list.

If I remember correctly, Windows 7 like Windows 2000 was built on Windows NT technology. Regardless of what the User Guide says, the only version that I have used is 1.11 and the only computer I used it on was a Windows XP laptop.

According to this source, Windows 2000, XP and Windows 7 are NT (New Technology) based.

Which may or may not add to more compatibility confusion

Before I try installing v1.11 I'll also remove the Gemalto PC Express Compact Card Reader Writer from the top PCMCIA slot.

Out of interest why are you spending some much time on a worthless machine of this age?

It's the machine I use here for my business.

I know that a fully featured MFP does everything and more without buying extra accessories, however I don't have the funds to plunk down a few thousand for a refurbished system.

To make the 430322 NIC Fax Unit Type 510 hardware operate (which I already have), and will add:

"Network capabilities (Color Scan to Email, Internet Fax, LAN Faxing, IP Faxing, Inbound Fax Routing) to FAX5510L."

Mainly I would like to take advantage of the color scanning, and email fax ability.

I have some very old musical instrument service manuals on 8.5" x 14" I want to scan, in color.

At the times I have asked if a document can be scanned in another format besides .pdf I'm given a strange look and then the answer is NO.

The 5510L is not a fast scanner which is an advantage in this case. It's feed through isn't apt to tear pages like a bend-and-fold-over document feeder.

Unfortunately my Epson V750 Pro flatbed only scans up to 11".
