[Misc] How Can I Configure Duplex and Grayscale on a c284e Printer?

I am new to troubleshooting and configuring MFPs and need some guidance. Today at work I spent several hours trying to figure out how to configure a Konica Minolta bizhub c284e printer to print only in grayscale and on both sides of the page (to preserve color toner and paper) but so far have been unsuccessful. I see on the web browser interface for the printer where I can choose these options, but selecting them appears to have no effect on the printer's output, which continues to be in color and not duplexed. Checking the interface after the fact showed my changes to the settings persisted. I'm at a loss for what I am doing wrong and would appreciate any assistance as trying to find a solution via the web so far has been fruitless.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that I was assigned to working on these printers with no formal training, so any general references for operating Konica Minolta c284e and c227 printers in particular would be appreciated.

For printing from PC you need to configure default settings in the print driver, just like any other printer/MFP. Make sure you have the correct print driver downloaded & installed then follow this video: Konica Minolta Change Printing Defaults

Ignore the 1-sided printing in the video and just change whatever defaults you want... the Basic tab has everything you need, black & white or color setting will be under Quality tab.

For copying, you need to select whatever default settings at the control panel's copy screen then save them as default, follow this video: Konica Minolta How to change the copier default settings

By the way, digging the username.

You change printing defaults via the driver not the printers web interface (pagescope)

Depending which driver you are using go to the advanced tab then printing defaults, set to mono / grey scale then duplex & click apply.

I'd been asked to set it so that every employee can print in duplex and can only print in grayscale, which is why I thought to change the settings in pagescope. Does this mean the only way to accomplish this is to have every employee make the same configurations to their driver? Also, what are the pagescope settings I was trying to modify for if the print driver controls the output?

Thank you for the initial response, by the way.

one thing to remember, once you have changed the settings - those settings don't always apply to any documents that you have open at the time, so close all documents before changing any settings

Install the driver on a server, or share your copy..Under the Advanced tab/printing prefinances, make all the changes you require. Every user that connects to this shared printer will have their settings from the changes you made. They can go in and change them back, but you can say "when you got the driver you were defaulted to grey scale" E

The easiest answer to this is a printserver. There you only need to make configurations once and everyone who used that shared printer from the printserver will have the settings applied.

Quite sure u can configure a GPO that will always pull the same settings each reboot.

Print driver settings override machine default settings. And Microsoft Office App settings override print driver settings.

So say for example somebody composes a Word document than attaches it to an email, to you. The document will hold whatever print settings that were used last before it was sent to you. For example, if it was one-sided and monochrome and (4) copies, those will be the settings it gets printed with if you just click print.

If you want something different you must change it. Sadly, endusers must have a working cranium, and be able to make choices. That has been a real issue in the past. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
