Win 11 Print Driver icons taking up to 15 minute to appear.

I have noticed lately on multiple computers in multiple locations when installing print drivers that the related icon to the print driver often does not appear in the control panel until maybe 10-15 minutes later.

This can really lengthen the tine to complete an install especially with multiple computers.

I have tried restarting the computer, restaring the print spooler and adding prints via printermanagement.msc .

Any idea what is going on?

Have you removed all of the old drivers?

One Win 11 PC can print to multiple printer/ copiers.

Why even bother with Control Panel installs? It's all but deprecated and it's just as easy through Settings from the Start Menu.

Outside of some initial BitLocker and power settings I don't even open Control Panel any longer.

Had exactly the effect SalesServiceGuy described by a recent install, and it drove me nuts in the beginning. I used as always the Settings from the Start Menu.......

Open a command prompt and run the command: shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} to get the Windows XP/7 Printer Dialogue. It will show all the installed printers.

Interesting. I never thought to right click Settings on the Windows Start icon. That gets me to Printers & Scanners a bit faster but the same much delayed appearance of the correct printer icons remain.

you are using the print driver installer from the manufacture, not using the windows printer install?

I believe this is related to a recent Windows patch. We have one computer that has the cumulative update from October 2023 and it doesn't have the issue. All the other machines are on the January 2024 patch and they have this problem.

Yes, I always use the OEM print driver.

Seeing the same thing when doing thru control panel or start icon. Seems to be the latest windows 11 update. Seem to start in last 30 days.

... I would agree. The slow to populate printer icon update seems to be a recent Win 11 update issue.

I have had a similar situation years ago at a school district. If someone scanned something to their assigned folder on the file server, it would take an extended length of time before they could see it in their folder but the IT could login as administrator and it was there. I found that if they either went up or down one folder level and then back it was there. They had just updated from Server 2012 R2 to Server 2016.

Its not only windows 11. I had this on a brand new windows 10 PC on Monday
