[Dead] HP officeJet 8012e ... A printer update will be installed to fix this problem

    Hi,
One of the partner I'm mostly working with, brought his Officejet 8012e, facing a problem I'm failing finding a solution.
On the Officejet 8012e, there's only one USB connector on the back, for connecting the printer to a computer.
The screen displays the following message :
"a problem has occured with one of the printer's critical system files. A printer update will be installed to fix this problem"
But even if the printer is connected through wifi to the network, nothings happen, and the printer stays idle for days.

Have you ever faced this problem, how do you solved it (except sending back to HP, because the printer is no more under warranty), is there a solution using the back USB connector forcing an update to be pushed into the printer ? Any solution or beginning will be great.

    Artefil.

What did you do to try to fix it? OEM cartridges? Have you tried uninstalling and installing the driver? Did you perform a reset?

      I appreciate your help.
Well, HP cartridges installed. The printer isn't seen by the computer nor using usb cable nor wifi, it seems the printer doesn't exist at all.
Can't access to a reset because I never have the opportunity getting into the maintenance menu.
There's just one ON/OFF switch, the rest is on the touch screen.
Have tried to disconnect the printer surge (both wall and back one) for 30 minutes, then 1 hour ... up to 48 hours, nothing change, the message remain the same.
Seems that critical files are missing but don't know which ones, nor how to replace them into the printer.
How will you force the printer uploading files to fix the problem when you just have one back usb access ? Is there any way to extract files and reinsert upgraded ones ?

It's a $99 printer. In my humble opinion just toss it. If you've spent two hours and a set of inks on it already, you've spent too much time & money. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I don' t use any ink because I can't run it as a printer. Price isn't really the question, I don't care the time I would spend, it's more something to solve as a problem.
I know the printer should be considered as dead.
I don't consider my job as just repairing and tossing what is too expensive to be repaired, I must find a solution. Then I propose the solution to the customer, who's going to choose.
My first question is : do you know where the printer's files are really located on these printer? On the EEPROM on another component such as RAM chips ?

You'll need a service manual. I've had significant difficulty finding service manuals for Officejets. On Laserjets the manuals are readily available, but Officejet manuals are difficult to find.

Also consider that the printer engine must be functional (not errored out), for you to be able to use it as a scanner. It will continue to use ink, to keep the printheads clear, and to do calibrations, even if you never print. If you need scanning, your best bet is to find an inexpensive $99 home scanner.

No I don't have any specific knowledge on this model. =^..^=

I'm all about fighting the good fight and not giving up. However, if you fix it, it's still a piece of crap cheap printer.

Well, sometimes you have customers that can't afford an expensive printer, and the "piece of crap cheap printer" is the most expensive one they can have.
Repairing is a mission, I've worldwide companies for customers as well as very humble person that can just afford the cheapest printer. I don't make any difference between them.
The customer is king even if he doesn't reign.
                I'll find a solution.
