Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board

Just a fyi for everyone. there is two different versions of firmware for the 550i & 650i. the versions of firmware you need to load depends on rather or not the machine came from the factory with the A800 memory board or not. You can tell which you need by looking at the serial number. I'm attaching the bulletin that address this. It does mention a special firmware but since this bulletin was released they have released base firmware to address this problem. 12918.pdf

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know what will happen if wrong firmware is installed? As example machine without Memory Board is flashed with G00-KJ.

Simple answer is, you can't install the wrong firmware. You will get the incorrect firmware error when booting from the USB stick. We only know this because we got caught by this change about 6 months ago, just before they released the bulletin on it. A tech went to install the latest firmware on a 550i and it wouldn't take. After all sorts of troubleshooting, we noticed that it had 450i firmware on it, and thought that someone at the office had somehow managed to installed the wrong firmware and screwed up the copier. After a couple calls to support we finally found out that it was supposed to be that way because of the A800 board not being installed. They conveniently released the bulletin about 3 days later addressing the situation.

To go a bit deeper into your question, both versions of firmware have a G00-KJ, which at this point is already outdated. It's not the last part of the firmware version that matters here, it's the first part of it when you look at the FULL version number of the firmware. In this case, AC740Y0-F000-G00-KJ is WITH the A800 board and AC770Y0-F000-G00-KJ is without it. Notice the BOLD numbers, that is where you distinguish the difference. Basically what you are doing it installing the 450i firmware onto the 550i and 650i if they don't have the A800 board. The same applies to the color models, with one exception noted below.

Here is a breakdown of the firmware for each model (Latest base version for each, as of this post, is G00-N4):

            1. 450i, 550i without A800, 650i without A800
              • AC770Y0

            2. 550, 650i (with A800)
              • AC740Y0

            3. C450i, C550i without A800
              • AA2J0Y0

            4. C550i with A800, C650i with A800
              • AA7N0Y0

            SPECIAL NOTE:
The C650i model ALWAYS comes with the A800 board. There was never a time when it didn't and there is only 1 firmware edition for this model.

The bulletin says you look at the eighth digit of serial number . If it is a 7 at the eighth digit then it does not come with A800 memory, If the eighth digit is a 0 then it does have A800 memory. look at the bulletin I attached. But you are correct that the machine will not take the wrong firmware.

The numbers/letters is my post aren't referring to the serial number, they are referring to the first part of the "full" firmware name, which indicates the machine type it goes to. In other words, instead of just referencing G00-N4 (Firmware version), it is the FULL name, AC770Y0-F000-G00-N4, where in this case the AC770Y0 indicates that this firmware is for the 450i and the 550i & 650i without the A800.

                    What's an "A800" memory board

Is it a RAM extention like the "UK" kits on previous generation? I always thought this was absolete with the i-series.

Search for MEMB ins SM. I think it's option when you install Fiery.

I checked but I'm still not shure. Fiery doesn't make much sense to me - is it even available for the mono models? SM shows a picture of it, it looks like a CPU daughter board including an own passive cooler so it's probably more than just a memory extention. To mee it seems to be there for improving the computing power to maintain some specifications on the higher speed variants of the i-Series that can't be covered with just the CPU board.

                        Pure guesswork it is

Because of electronical components shortage, the A800 memory board has been saved for Production Printing devices.
                          The A800 board is basically used for C750i, C650i, C550i, 958, 750i, 650i, 550i as default. For C450i, C360i, C300i, C250i, 450i 360i, 300i it is available as option UK-115.

Yeah I do recall the changes on the 4e series - once I had a bad "1 beam" laser and used a "2 beam" from a parts donator. I think both variants had the same flat-cable towards the back of the machine but a different PCB on side of the laser unit. As for the current generation: In the advertising both the VI516 and UK115 are listed as "connectivity interface for fiery". It's funny that the SM does not describe what this UK option actually does but if a fiery is installed that UK PCB is actually kind of looped in between the CPU and VI board.

Wich parts has been listed as modified to maintain 2 beam laser support?
