Just a fyi for everyone. there is two different versions of firmware for the 550i & 650i. the versions of firmware you need to load depends on rather or not the machine came from the factory with the A800 memory board or not. You can tell which you need by looking at the serial number. I'm attaching the bulletin that address this. It does mention a special firmware but since this bulletin was released they have released base firmware to address this problem. 12918.pdf

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
To go a bit deeper into your question, both versions of firmware have a G00-KJ, which at this point is already outdated. It's not the last part of the firmware version that matters here, it's the first part of it when you look at the FULL version number of the firmware. In this case, AC740Y0-F000-G00-KJ is WITH the A800 board and AC770Y0-F000-G00-KJ is without it. Notice the BOLD numbers, that is where you distinguish the difference. Basically what you are doing it installing the 450i firmware onto the 550i and 650i if they don't have the A800 board. The same applies to the color models, with one exception noted below.
Here is a breakdown of the firmware for each model (Latest base version for each, as of this post, is G00-N4):
- 450i, 550i without A800, 650i without A800
- AC770Y0
- 550, 650i (with A800)
- AC740Y0
- C450i, C550i without A800
- AA2J0Y0
- C550i with A800, C650i with A800
- AA7N0Y0
SPECIAL NOTE: The C650i model ALWAYS comes with the A800 board. There was never a time when it didn't and there is only 1 firmware edition for this model.A Ricoh Service Tech for 7 year. A Konica Minolta Service Tech for 7 years. Now, KM service manager for 4 years.

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
Simple answer is, you can't install the wrong firmware. You will get the incorrect firmware error when booting from the USB stick. We only know this because we got caught by this change about 6 months ago, just before they released the bulletin on it. A tech went to install the latest firmware on a 550i and it wouldn't take. After all sorts of troubleshooting, we noticed that it had 450i firmware on it, and thought that someone at the office had somehow managed to installed the wrong firmware and screwed up the copier. After a couple calls to support we finally found out that it was supposed to be that way because of the A800 board not being installed. They conveniently released the bulletin about 3 days later addressing the situation.

The bulletin says you look at the eighth digit of serial number . If it is a 7 at the eighth digit then it does not come with A800 memory, If the eighth digit is a 0 then it does have A800 memory. look at the bulletin I attached. But you are correct that the machine will not take the wrong firmware.Comment

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
The numbers/letters is my post aren't referring to the serial number, they are referring to the first part of the "full" firmware name, which indicates the machine type it goes to. In other words, instead of just referencing G00-N4 (Firmware version), it is the FULL name, AC770Y0-F000-G00-N4, where in this case the AC770Y0 indicates that this firmware is for the 450i and the 550i & 650i without the A800.Comment

Search for MEMB ins SM. I think it's option when you install Fiery.A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
I checked but I'm still not shure. Fiery doesn't make much sense to me - is it even available for the mono models? SM shows a picture of it, it looks like a CPU daughter board including an own passive cooler so it's probably more than just a memory extention. To mee it seems to be there for improving the computing power to maintain some specifications on the higher speed variants of the i-Series that can't be covered with just the CPU board.
Pure guesswork it isComment

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
The A800 board is basically used for C750i, C650i, C550i, 958, 750i, 650i, 550i as default. For C450i, C360i, C300i, C250i, 450i 360i, 300i it is available as option UK-115.
Effected models by this modification
- bizhub C550i
- bizhub 650i
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Konica Minolta
Product Status Report
- bizhub 550i
The internal naming changed to
- bizhub C550i without memory board
- bizhub 650i without memory board
- bizhub 550i without memory board
To compensate the A800 board and supporting 2 beam print head at the same
time the following parts are be modified.
Please refer to RFEU_BT2210861EN further details.
First generation of the +224e had 2 beam Laser and after they downgraded in the 2nd. generation to 1 beam. Marked with a sticker SB (single beam) on the Frame right side next to the fuser . The result was a slower print in 1200dpi.Comment

Because of electronical components shortage, the A800 memory board has been saved for Production Printing devices.

Re: Firmware for bizhub 550i/650i without A800 Memory Board
That would interest me too. Unfortunately I can't answer that. Apparently I don't have full rights in Knova. I can't find the RFEU_BT2210861EN.
But I'm not sure if a missing board will perform the same speed.Comment
