    [CQ] Bizhub C308

hey everyone - Merry Christmas in advance!

this machine is putting random 'edge to edge' yellow lines across the page, different line widths, different spacings and it doesn't matter which paper size, direction nor duplex or copy

    Bizhub C308 Y line.pdf

tried setting time in service mode, swapped Y drum with C drum, no change - checked Y developer unit & ITB assembly, all seemed perfect but no changes. cheated the front door & waste toner bottle, inserted the laser slit glass cleaning wand into Y and ran multiple prints - no yellow line which leads me to believe the yellow line is being written to the drum

unfortunately the business closed and i had to leave before i could go further - has anyone seen this before? any suggestions? (was going to check/lube the polygon motor next)

    thanks in advance!

Hi, Merry Christmas to you as well.

You have done all the basic troubleshooting as it should be done. How are B&W prints?

I've seen bad drums make a line like that before but you already ruled that out by swapping .

Only thing left is the laser print head unit, especially since line moves a little.

the lines do not show in mono prints or copies - silly question perhaps, but why would the print head only produce yellow lines?

I agree it's strange. Print head is only thing that makes sense to me if not the drum unit. Doubt it's anything with high voltage or a board so all that's left is print head which writes to drum. Since you said you were going to open print head to lube polygon motor & clean maybe that will help. Was also thinking erase lamp for yellow but not sure line would move..... interesting to say the least.

Why is the line going through the edge erase part? Laser print head?

I would check yellow LED erase strip(above drum).

Start another print and stop the machine mid print by opening the front door. See if you can see the error on the drum unit or the Transfer Belt.

i have seen this b4 print head is being overdriven. try printing half tones at full power and about 150.cause can be worn high count developers , drums and xfer belt.

thank you all for your input, very much appreciated!

i dismantled the print head (strange name for a laser unit) removed and dismantled the polygon motor and cleaned and polished both the bush, the shaft and the polygon mirror using something we call Silvo in Aus - it's an old hydrocarbon based polish for Silver, it's super fine, doesn't score the surfaces and leaves a protective film

noticeable improvement in rotation, ran 200 prints with no yellow line

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year

Congrats, I'd expect a white line/light prints if the laser optics is dirty or something sits on the glass. Perhaps it was some electrical issue wich has been resolved by fiddling around with the involving parts and connectors.

Looks like printhead/laser to me.. and yes, I've heard of them putting out random, single color lines on pages before.
