    SR 790 Jamming Problem (Staple)

I have been encountering many jam problems with the SR790 Finisher - particularly when sort/staple is selected. I find that pages curl over as they make the final bend just before entering the staple tray. In many cases several sheets will roll over and finally back up the entrance area of the staple tray. Customers explain that they often have to remove several sheets from the staple tray when the unit jams and shuts down - checking SP jam data confirms that the staple tray is the primary cause of the jam problem. I have been working primarily with the drive section that transports the paper from the entrance of the finisher - down the right frame/vertical drive - and into the staple tray. Also, I find that if there is any curl or warping the finisher has a difficult time loading pages into the staple tray area - it's almost as if the incoming sheets are hitting into the pages already loaded into the staple tray waiting to be stapled. I personally feel that the last bend into the staple tray is too severe (design flaw). This problem is widespread - I see it very frequently. Any suggestions on how to correct for the jam problem that I have detailed would be appreciated - thank you.

I have seen a few of those problems as well. A majority of the problems I saw were related to poor paper. There was a hot topic that came out a while back about adding mylars to help with jamming.

There are plastic Burr's in the J channel. If you separate the sorter from the machine. Take off the metal cover and the plastic J channel cover(make sure to disconnect the sensor). Reach inside to sorter and lift up the J channel gate you will see where there are mold marks from the injection molding, sand those off. Also Bend the metal plate toward you so when you put the plastic cover back on there is no gap between the plastic and metal. We use almost all SR790 sorters and do the Mod before it gets installed.

Thank you for the response - the next opportunity I have to look at a SR790 I plan on checking the areas that you detailed. From your description I believe I know the plate you are referring to. If by chance I am unable to find the areas that you described I will post a follow-up request. I'm assuming that the plate you refer to as the 'J Channel' is the lower plate on the last bend that the paper makes before being loaded into the staple tray. As far as forming the steel plate to match up against the plastic cover I will need to look at this. I appreciate your help very much as I want to help all customers who have been dealing with recurring staple problems when using this finisher.

        Thanks again -

Today I had jam code 28 that kept appearing on a MP3500 with a SR790. Did this mod and it took care of the problem. Thanks Noj7373!

              Techos -

Please explain in detail what you are referring to when you mention tensioning the conveyor in the SR790 finisher to correct for staple jam problems - please be as specific as possible.

              Thank you for your help.

Sorry for the lack of precision, just to tell you that English is not my
                mother's language !
I've made a confusion with another finisher, mine had a problem with the lift ( lack of belt tension)

I assume the metal plate you are talking about is the one right above the plastic cover? I have one I'm fighting with that I've done the mylars too, sanded off the burrs, made sure the grounding plate was connected good..yada, yada, yada, but still once in a while a sheet just catches on the stapler exit roller assy and fouls everything up.
