I've been away from the forums for a while and while I was away, a hailstorm kicked up!
In my view, the political situation in the US is hella complicated. The polarisation is just immense and the political theatre seems to us over the border to be nothing short of a very frightening pantomime, although the Canadian government is trying to give them a run for their money.
I don't really know if Trump is a good or a bad president in terms of his policies. I guess it depends if you are a winner or a loser because of them. What I do know is that every time he opens his mouth publicly (especially when talking about the Covid situation) he demonstrates what a witless wonder he is. And that scares the sh*t out of me.
When he was voted in, I hoped that he might disturb the cosy political establishment somewhat and boy, did he, and for that I am grateful.
Regarding his attack on the media, there is much truth in what he has to say on that. I trust little of what I hear in the mainstream media these days on any subject. The downside to that is that people are going to all sorts of places to get their "truth" and much of that is complete BS. They say that conspiracy theorists are on the rise and I don't doubt it. I accept that it is not Trump's fault that the public at large have very few options these days to get relatively unbiased reporting.
As for his successor, I will see what happens, but it seems to me that he represents the political establishment in much the same way that Hilary does.
He is talking with more conciliatory language, so perhaps he can attempt to address the polarisation somewhat. We will see. I'm not holding my breath however.Comment

Until the major US news sources are either closed or depolarized, the political polarization will continue. Of course those news sources will not report the true facts and there are those here on CTN who refuse to accept anything from any source that does not agree with what they have been brainwashed to believe.Comment

On Friday, the pro-Trump attorney Lin Wood tweeted that Vice President Mike Pence should be arrested for treason and executed by firing squad.
He also blamed Chief Justice John Roberts and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for the election results.
The remarks prompted Jenna Ellis, a lawyer for President Donald Trump's campaign, and the conservative student Nicholas Sandmann to issue tweets distancing themselves from his remarks.
Wood doubled down on the comments over the weekend, saying that Pence should "resign," and that he is "fine" and loves Trump and America.
In recent weeks, Wood has filed or joined lawsuits to overturn President-elect Joe Biden's election victory. Wood has also cited conspiracy theories in the past.

On Friday night, Wood posted a series of unhinged tweets blaming "THE REPUBLICANS" for stealing the 2020 election from Trump, adding: "When arrests for treason begin, put Chief Justice John Roberts, VP Mike Pence, & Mitch McConnell at top of list."
In separate tweets, Wood said that the military should arrest those Republican figures and that Pence should "face execution by firing squad," adding: "He is a coward & will sing like a bird & confess ALL."Comment

All 10 living former US defense secretaries declared that the US presidential election is over in a forceful public letter published in The Washington Post on Sunday as President Donald Trump continues to deny his election loss to Joe Biden.
The letter -- signed by Dick Cheney, James Mattis, Mark Esper, Leon Panetta, Donald Rumsfeld, William Cohen, Chuck Hagel, Robert Gates, William Perry and Ashton Carter -- amounts to a remarkable show of force against Trump's subversion efforts just days before Congress is set to count Electoral College votes.
"Our elections have occurred. Recounts and audits have been conducted. Appropriate challenges have been addressed by the courts. Governors have certified the results. And the electoral college has voted. The time for questioning the results has passed; the time for the formal counting of the electoral college votes, as prescribed in the Constitution and statute, has arrived," the group wrote.
Cohen, a Republican who served as Secretary of Defense under President Bill Clinton, told CNN's Ana Cabrera on "Newsroom" shortly after the letter was published that the "highly unusual" step was warranted given the "unconstitutional path" Trump has taken the country.
"It was really our attempt to call out to the American people. We believe all of them are patriotic. They've been led down a path by President Trump, which is an unconstitutional path. And so we felt it was incumbent on us as having served in the Defense Department to say: Please all of you in the Defense Department, you've taken an oath to serve this country, this Constitution, not any given individual," he said.

In a phone call, President Trump pressured Georgia’s secretary of state to change the vote totals in the state to overturn his loss. “I just want to find 11,780 votes” Trump said. Georgia officials rebuffed Trump’s demands.
The president suggested on the call that the Georgia officials could be prosecuted if they did not do his bidding. But it was Trump’s attempt at coercion that may have violated the law, lawyers told The Times.
During the call, Trump recited a number of falsehoods that have circulated on social media involving dead voters, voting machines and shredded ballots.Comment
