    Feel free to add....

    Been in this business so long that I remember:

    Restringing Canon corona grids

    Replacing exposure lamps

    These were just a few that came to mind, there are plenty more....

              Not just a few ... a whole trunk load of manuals. =^..^=
              If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                  The manuals, wall full of them, ordering Canon manuals from a dealer in Texas for 150 a pop. Back in early 90's. To Intravia coming out with his genius idea, still have the whole set, get info from that once in a while. Now, everything is downloaded. Also, can't remember last time I had to replace a heater lamp, exposure/element scanning lamp/thermister. Oh, how times have changed. So much easier, less time consuming, cleaner hands! LOL! But, the pants still get all messed up in the knee area, can's get away from that.,

                      As far as the scan lamps being a thing of the past, we used to have a crush proof tube to hold all the different lamps, got rid of that long ago.
                      Also, as to physical books, we had parts manuals on microfishe with a small reader that never seems to work.

                      I will add drive chains to the list, last one I remember was the Canon NP6650.
                      Even older than using VR's to adjust timing was physically moving the scanner sensors to adjust registration.
                      My brain seems to remember not even getting jams codes when I first started, just the flashing jam light.
                      As far as software goes, I recall changing EEPROM's on NP6551's, taking 30 minutes to flash an IR600 via parallel if you were lucky to remember the DOS commands. Now, plug in your USB key or download direct via the web.

                          Fun times in 1976 with heavy paper rolls, cutter knives, cherry switch failures x hundreds, relay boards and big ass cam assemblies for timing functions.

                          Toner tanks filled with liquid stinking ink that gave you weak ass copy quality for about 5,000 clicks.

                          You had better commit to memory every component in the machine to pass the Saxon Factory Cerification.

                              Doctor gap gauges...........
                              Using a drum shoe to set corona charge currents......
                              Draining the sump on wet copiers to replace them with these new fangled dry powder ones.
                              When the only thing a photocopier did was make photocopies......
                              At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

                                  Ok, how could I have forgotten this one!

                                  Wax temp sticks to test the fuser adjustment for drying the wet paper as it passes over the 'hot plate'.

                                  And having 60 or so damn fuses on you at all calls with your multimeter at the ready

                                                      mailing systems that could only perform 1 function at a time.. weigh - stamp - seal.... taking 3 runs of the envelopes

                                                      never mind mail-merge with a six tray insert/fold/weigh/stamp/seal in one contiguous process
