    Re: 3D printed copier/printer parts.

Interesting how blokes are 3D printing with polymers.

Where I would like to end up is printing 3D metals.

Another idea is to 3D print the mould billet/shape using polymers.
Push the shape down into casting sand or plaster of Paris.
Pour molten aluminium into the sprue to form complex metal shapes.

Aluminium melts at around 660 C and cools quickly.
Aluminium or magnesium(lawnmower frames) are good for hobby shop casting.

You can easy build a hot melt forge out of an old BBQ gas bottle cut In half.
Weld three legs on the top where the tap hole is located, use the bottom as the forge lid.
Use the exhaust flow from an old vacuum cleaner to blow air in through the tap hole and heat the charcoal to super hot.
Make a crucible/pot out of an old pieice of metal pipe.

3d "welder printer" its a MIG welder on a robot arm. Printing rocket engines.
lost PLA casting is very interesting way to make metal 3d printed parts.

Here is a knowledgeable guy on metal 3d printing. Dan Gelbard.

At last someone posted a make one of my things instead of just downloading.
Got any printer parts in mind?

            Re: 3D printed copier/printer parts.

            Hello guys and gals.

I'm waiting for my first 3D printer to start learning modeling and whatnot.

I was thinking if it would be viable to 3D print gears from those ass'ys that are only sold complete and you need to throw it away because of just one broken gear. Do you have any experience with that?

I also would like to 3D print a door jig, since I don't have any and I think it would be a great addition to my tool bag. Can someone post here pictures and measurements of door jigs? That would be probably my first print to get my feet wet, since it looks like a simple enough job for a beginner...

So my last vacuum nozzle was shite so here is 2.0.
Moved to Onshape instead of Fusion360. Platform independence on a tool like this is awesome.

So some guy on the verse did these. Very handy to protect the tip but mostly your hand when reaching into the old bag of tricks.
I use these nippers to remove toner chips and mod toner bottles.

Nice! Somehow I missed this thread for the last four years.

What kind of cash investment is required to get started doing this? =^..^=

Check the price on a Creality Ender 3 printer and PLA filament. Its not that much. I am in ZA so not sure how that translate to dollars.
I spent R3500 on the printer and R300 per roll of PLA filament with exchange rate at $1 to R18. So I guess around $250 to $300 should get you there. ANC government really screwed ZA over we were leading the gold standard in the early 90's...

The software is free to use for hobbyists.

You needs a CAD application like Fusion360 or Onshape and a slicer app to generate to code to run the printer like Cura or Slic3r.

Not much at all and easier than you think.
