But the vast majority of science and data show that mask are not able to block viruses. The best a mask can block are PM 2.5 particles. That means particles 2.5 microns in diameter or larger. Viruses are less than 1 micron in diameter.

    WRONG AGAIN SLIM
Too much debate has focused on whether individuals should wear face masks to stop the spread of COVID-19 — and not enough on what types of masks work best.

Yes, New Mexicans should continue wearing masks considering the surge in virus cases and colder temperatures that send people indoors. Duh. Mask-wearing is required as part of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s public health order on the pandemic, but at this point, that order is almost beside the point. Wear masks because science is showing they work.

But there can be more to masks than what meets the eye.

Just this week, the first-of-its-kind global study published in the British Medical Journal concluded mask-wearing is the single most effective public health measure at tackling COVID-19, reducing incidence by 53 percent. The study should settle the debate, although given the toxic nature of the mask debate, it likely won’t ever end.

Oh so now you use a UK study when before you would only accept info from the CDC.
Have you looked at the data coming from Israel? Nope guess not.

        Wrong again Brian!

        From Fauci's Place (NIH);
Randomised controlled trials in health care workers showed that respirators, if worn continually during a shift, were effective but not if worn intermittently. Medical masks were not effective, and cloth masks even less effective.

Actually the most effective preventative step is proper distancing. And I don't mean the mere 6 feet that the CDC recommends. Water droplets from coughs and sneezes can travel upwards to 15 feet, even when wearing a mask.

Another effective method is to not go where there is likely to be those who are already infected, like a walk in test station with a few hundred in front of you in line.

If you absolutely insist on wearing a mask, better have it properly fitted by medicals professionals and also wear a properly fitted and worn face shield.

According to the article, the Pfizer "vaccine has now been reportedly injected almost 225 million times into the arms of Americans." Without knowing how many have been "boosters" that puts the number of American citizens that have received the Pfizer pokes at between 75 and 113 million.

A heavily-mutated Covid variant emerges in southern Africa: Here’s what we know so far

                          • The variant known as B.1.1.529 has been detected in small numbers in South Africa, WHO officials said.
                          • South African scientist Tulio de Oliveira said in a media briefing that the variant contains more than 30 mutations to the spike protein, the component of the virus that binds to cells.
                          • The U.K. immediately moved to ban flights from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini and Zimbabwe.
                          • Francois Balloux, an epidemiologist and director of University College London’s Genetics Institute, told the BBC on Friday that the early discovery of the variant could render it easier to contain.

The World Health Organization will meet on Friday to discuss a new heavily-mutated variant of Covid-19.

The variant known as B.1.1.529 has been detected in small numbers in South Africa, WHO officials said, with reports on Friday morning of cases being found in Israel and Hong Kong.

Here’s what we know so far:

                          Multiple mutations

South African scientist Tulio de Oliveira said in a media briefing held by the South Africa Department of Health on Thursday that the variant contains a “unique constellation” of more than 30 mutations to the spike protein, the component of the virus that binds to cells. This is significantly more than those of the delta variant.

Many of these mutations are linked to increased antibody resistance, which may affect how the virus behaves with regard to vaccines, treatments and transmissibility, health officials have said.

In total, de Oliveira said the variant contains around 50 mutations. The receptor binding domain (the part of the virus that first makes contact with cells) has 10 mutations, far greater than just two for the delta Covid variant, which spread rapidly earlier this year to become the dominant strain worldwide.

This level of mutation means it’s possible that it came from a single patient who could not clear the virus, giving it the chance to genetically evolve. The same hypothesis was proposed for the alpha Covid variant.

                          ...
